Gonzaga warns against partying by 'non-Mexican individuals'
Campus reform ^ | 8:47 AM EDT 5/4/2018 | Ben McDonald

In an email to the student body, a Gonzaga University administrator cautioned that Cinco de Mayo has become "full of cultural appropriation," directing them to a flyer listing "alternative" ways of celebrating the holiday. "Don't you dare put on that 'sombrero,'" the flyer tells students, suggesting that they "donate to organizations working for immigrant rights" rather than have a party. Another option is to "support AUTHENTIC Mexican businesses" run by "actual Mexican people," though it cautions that "CHIPOTLE DOESN’T COUNT."

As for me, I will be celebrating 5/5 with a lunch of steak and eggs, to commemorate an American accomplishment, sending alan Shepard into space on Freedom 7.

“Cultural appropriation” is only a sin in the religion of liberalism.

Liberals must stop trying to force their religion on everyone else.

American citizens have the God-given and Constitutionally-protected right to free speech. And such speech may offend people.

Someone in authority should not be dictating what kind of speech they may or may not be permitted to engage in.

Over 100 years ago, the Presidente of Mexico went to England for a royal function...While there, he tasted a certain condiment that he’d never had before...he fell in love with it...

He wanted the Mexican people to have it, so he ordered 100 cases of this condiment shipped to Mexico...

On it’s way, on April 15, 1912, the ship carrying this condiment hit an iceburg and sank...

The condiment for Mexico was on the Titanic....

The Presidnete felt so bad that he declared a national holiday...

That’s where the holiday, “Sinko De Mayo” came form...

True story...............(maybe)

"Don't you dare put on that 'sombrero,'" the flyer tells students

Methinks it's time to do some sombrero shopping.

Problem is this isn’t an official holiday in Mexico, in fact it’s barely recognized as a holiday at all. The main place the 5th of May is celebrated is in the U.S. and it’s basically a gringo creation.

Way past time for the students to tell the administration to shove it up their Dorkbamaholes.

And that’s not cultural appropriation, because EVERYONE has a Doribamahole.

So fair being fair, those of Mexican heritage should not celebrate nor eat American things on the other 364 days of the year. I'm triggered when they do!

I just love it how ignorant Mexicans (and I'm married to a Mexican - now American - who isn't ignorant) think that Sinko de Mayo is some kind of anti-American holiday. That attitude is more revealing than pretty much anything else (well, except demonstrating IN AMERICA, against America, whilst waiving the Mexican flag). What this holiday is really about is something quite common in the modern world, and barely even worth celebrating: Kicking the shit out of the French. Of course, that was only one small battle, and the French came back with more troops later and ended up capturing Mexico City and installing an emperor. The Frogs didn't leave until the US Civil War was over, and we started leaning hard on them to GTFO of our hemisphere...whereupon they left, and shortly thereafter started the process of regularly getting their ass whupped by the Germans.

I sure hope Gonzaga doesn’t allow non-Latinos to take Spanish classes. Appropriating another’s language would be the ultimate cultural theft!
