Last week, the New York Times published an opinion piece by Gerard Alexander, an associate professor of politics at the University of Virginia, titled, “Liberals, You’re Not as Smart as You Think.” The piece is an intriguing analysis of how liberals are hurting their own cause by presuming their mental and moral superiority, and thus, are inviting significant backlash against their favored agenda. The prime example is how liberals use their virtual monopoly in the media and the entertainment industry to ruthlessly bash Trump. They're very protective of this monopoly as their goal is ideological segregation. Any signs of diversity of thought are met with disgust and hatred. The most recent example is probably the demonization of Kayne West for his support of Donald Trump.
Does this propaganda work? Not really, according to Professor Alexander. “When [liberals] use their positions in American culture to lecture, judge, and disdain, they push more people into an opposing coalition that liberals are increasingly prone to think of as deplorable.”
Liberals have gotten so used to their values dominating popular culture that even the absence of explicit support for left-wing politics merits criticism. Many left-wing voices criticized the hit indie film Juno for being anti-abortion because the teenage protagonist of the movie chooses to give her unborn baby up for adoption rather than have an abortion. Taylor Swift has been attacked for not using her fame as a pop singer to denounce Trump. During the Obama years, Hollywood made an attempt to promote Obamacare by weaving pro-Obamacare storylines into popular television programs.

Now that's funny.... Most of the liberals I ever met couldn't be trusted with children in the room and had problems tying their own shoelaces...
Their "base" of voters is of the very over-educated elites, who know better than anyone, and the very UNDER-educated fools who don't know jack squat.
The folks who just do what they are told, and pull the lever for what their social betters tell them to do.
That is why Kanye West scares them.

I have encountered this very thing when progressive posters on another forum would challenge me by saying things like how marvelous it is and how special I am to have been chosen to receive grace.
I’ve responded that I was taught that it is Christ who is special, not me, and have too frequently been tempted to shoot back that it is they who really think themselves special because they trample Christ underfoot even though He died for them too.
But I’ve never given into that temptation.
I may realize that C.S.Lewis’ imagery potentially has some validity to it: that the spirits of men are far more than we may seem even though the souls of men are bound up in the doings on this tiny silver stage that is life, and so I can suspect that everyone is really aware of Him at some level, even profoundly so, but that suspicion would seem madness to an atheist progressive taunting me that I would dare imagine myself special.
Simply: I refuse to be ashamed of my privilege, real as indeed it actually is! In fact i glory in what has been given to me unearned! And even worse I don’t respect the goodness of men or the badness of individual men to say those must be saved and those must be damned apart from the reference point of the only Gospel.
I’m terribly immune to fearing being envied!
And like others with that immunity, even if situational for many, we all get challenged by those who refuse blessing for our accepting blessing.
The folks doing the taunting would be exhaultant if any believer would come back, you’re right, I’m not special even if it meant following up saying and neither are you.
They do not want to think they might be blessed and they don’t want anyone to think they are.

Most liberals I have known have no moral compass, they don’t believe truth and they will quickly accept lies and propaganda. I don’t that having this mental “agility” makes someone smart.

NY Times columnist, Gerard Alexander, will likely pay a steep price for daring to step out of lockstep with the left.
He’s just given them the best advice possible, but it’ll go over like a lead balloon.
