What Chevy Chase did on Ford was funny, I miss those shows.

I used to laugh until I cried.

“Comedy” is no longer funny, it consists of bad language, Potty jokes and hatred.

No Trump bashing, just pure comedic relief.

Did you forget the Ford bashing that Chevy Chase loved to do? Or the Nixon bashing by Dan Aykroyd?

Then of course we had the third gen cast give us non-stop Reagan bashing.

But in spite of all that, I also pine for the original cast, followed by the Eddie Murphy years.

When SNL isn't trying and failing to do 'relevant topical political humor', they can do some funny stuff.

Two examples:

Puppet Class - SN

Close Encounter - SNL

That old crew had their fun with Ford, but at least it was mostly respectful. And funny. The new SNL is neither.

SNL was an institution for me for decades. I actually watched the initial episode (October 1975) as a 13 year old kid. I had read about the show back in August in some Sunday newspaper supplement magazine and had been looking forward to it. The concept of a live TV comedy show was pretty revolutionary back then.

Now many here constantly obsess about the original cast and how it went downhill ever since. I don't agree with that. The cast of the early 1990s was probably the peak of the show. Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Dennis Miller, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Victoria Jackson, Chris Farley, etc. Those were great years and at least half of the cast I just mentioned were conservatives!

The original cast was way overrated in my opinion. I liked them too but I felt that Lorraine Newman and Garrett Morris had little to offer. I did have a crush on Jane Curtin. As a teenage boy, she was the woman I wanted to marry. And I did end up marrying a Jane Curtin type of woman. Just don't tell her I said that!

It was a great show for maybe 30 years. But over the past 5 years, it has become completely unwatchable. Especially with the Trump hate.

Was in college back then. On Saturday’s parties would stop when SNL was coming on and we would pack into a room to watch it.

Remember this one. At first we thought it was a commercial not a spoof.

Hilarious skits that were done with real talent and no malice. Just funny.

Yes,there was always the left wing direction on SNL but somehow they seemed to have enough love for all the people.

Not now. Now it’s just miserable hatred cloaking itself as comedy.

SNL 1970s Gilda Radner. “Hey, You”.

Yeah when they just attacked Gerald Ford, SNL has always attacked Republican Presidents.........always! Time just makes the memory fade, just like Carson always took slimy swipes at the Republicans, and soft touches at Democrats.

Re: “No Trump bashing”

Re: “When comedy was just comedy.”

I disagree.

In one of their first shows I recall them doing a skit where Nixon keeps calling Kissinger “Jew Boy.”

Their mockery of Gerald Ford - stupid, clumsy - was relentless.

They have NEVER been even handed in their political skits, in 1975, or any other year.

I gave up in the mid 80s on SNL.

MadTV was really good for a while.

All the youtube videos are starting with Trump ads...

Actually, it’s the same Trump ad for every video. At least it’s not that purple mattress ad again.

Speaking of videos, this one was kind of weird. The College Humor guys sometimes do really good videos, but this one was just okay.
