DICKSON, TN (WSMV) -

The TBI has confirmed that Steven Wiggins, who is accused of killing Sgt. Daniel Baker, was taken into custody Friday morning.According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Trooper Kevin Burch arrested Wiggins on Stinson Road, which is right at the Dickson-Hickman County line. Burch reportedly saw Wiggins on the edge of a wood line and approached him.

Once he got closer to Wiggins, Burch recognized him, which is when he drew his weapon and ordered Wiggins to the ground. Wiggins was "obedient" and was arrested without incident, according to THP Colonel Derrick Stuart. Officials declined to comment if Wiggins was armed.

Wiggins was taken to TriStar Natchez ER off Highway 46 in Dickson. TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland said Wiggins' injuries are not life-threatening and are consistent with him being out in the woods for several days.

Wiggins will be booked into the Dickson County Jail when he is released from the hospital.

Dickson County Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe said he spoke with Wiggins after his arrest but would not reveal what he said to him. Bledsoe said Wiggins is wearing Baker's handcuffs.

"This has been a trying week for each of us. We've had a heavy load and some heavy lifting, but we couldn't have done this without all our partners that have been involved," said Bledsoe during the news conference. Stuart issued this statement: "Great job performed by the men and women of local, state & federal law enforcement, National Guard Reserve, media and our citizens. Due to the professional, never quit approach to how you conducted yourselves Steven Wiggins was located and arrested. I am very proud of everyone."

District Attorney General Ray Crouch Jr. said both Wiggins and his girlfriend, Erika Castro-Miles, are charged with first-degree premeditated murder.

"Based upon the evidence and aggravating factors in this case, the State will be seeking the death penalty for both defendants. The defendants are without bail and we will argue against any request for bail," said Crouch in a statement.

Bledsoe said that while he knows the court process will take a while, he'll be there each step of the way.

"Even if they have to wheel me into the courthouse, I'll be there," Bledsoe said. SNIP

They caught him without a shot being fired. Would have been tough for me not to shoot first.

Cool. Thought he would go down with a fight though. He had nothing to lose.

There's that beard and chrome dome thing again. How many perps, white perps in
particular, have the chin whiskers and balding head? They all must belong to the
same club—Hair Club for Perps.

"Bledsoe said Wiggins is wearing Baker's handcuffs."

There was a twitter thread going that the TBI was participating in. And there were a lot of people (not the TBI) calling for them to shoot Wiggins instead of arrest him.

But that's kind of scary. Yeah we're angry. But we have trial's and the presentation of evidence for a reason. What if someone had accused an innocent person and they hadn't done it.

Those same people that called on Wiggins to be executed without trial would be calling for an innocent person to be executed.

The public has been fed soundbites indicating that there is a lot of evidence concluding Wiggin's guilt. But the public hasn't seen that evidence yet. Let the process work!

I noticed that too, with the beard. I want to say that it’s the type that looks typical of leftists but I’d probably better not.

If he is found guilty and is sentenced to death, he will probably spend the next 25 years pursuing appeals...unless a future Democrat governor commutes his sentence.

The man who attempted to kill FDR in February 1933 and caused the death of Anton Cermak, the mayor of Chicago, instead, was executed within a month or two of Cermak's death. If Lee Harvey Oswald had not been silenced by Jack Ruby and had been found guilty and sentenced to death, he probably would have died of old age in prison.

A fair and speedy trial and speedy execution would do wonders for those who wish to assassinate Police Officers.
