(CNN Money) — Back in February, Dick’s Sporting Goods made a bold decision to stop selling assault style rifles and high capacity magazines, and to raise the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21.
Executives there braced for pain. Instead they got good news.
Dick’s Sporting Goods stock price surged by as much as 27% after it reported stronger than expected quarterly sales and profit Wednesday.
It’s the first measure of their decision to pull away from some guns.

Soaring economy = consumers able to really milk their leisure time = buy high-end sports stuff.

So a mass of far-lefties shopped at Dick’s online as a one-time show of support and goosed the quarter for them.
What are they going to do after all the people who aren’t really interested in their products move on to the next fad? Negative same-store sales numbers are an ominous sign for future quarters.

Just means that was not the place most people purchased their guns. People go to Dick’s to pick up Lacrosse equipment, football, baseball and other sporting equipment not to pick up a gun in most cases. There are gun stores for that. I love how they are saying, “oh poor gun buyers. See getting rid of guns is successful.” No getting rid of guns where people don’t buy them anyway is successful.
Who in the he’ll is shopping at brick and mortar sporting goods stores anymore??

Story fails to mention guns are a small part of Dicks revenue which in March first quarter actually was down 9% from the year before
Come hunting season they will be singing a different tune. Hunters buy more than firearms, a lot more.

Well I can’t speak to the real sales and profit figures because I don’t have them nor want them. It is peculiar that they had to write off the cost of all the big black guns they destroyed and paint a picture that the absence of people like me doesn’t matter. So I will sit here happy each time I drive through the parking lot past Dicks, past Target and stop at Cabellas.
Don’t believe for a minute that their posted earnings are real. Nor do I really care
