MARION, Ind. -- The Marion Community Schools board president has stepped down from her position following backlash over a post that she shared on her personal social media page in support of actress Roseanne Barr.
Cathy Mortiz emailed her resignation to the rest of the board on Thursday saying "I am sorry for the message that was conveyed"
In the message, Moritz said she plans to serve out her elected tenure and use her situation as a "learning opportunity" for herself and the community.
"For the integrity of this board and out of love for this community, I am stepping down from my position as president of the Marion Community Schools Board of Trustees.
As I have said before, I am sorry for the message that was conveyed.
I plan to serve out my elected tenure, and I am committed to working with my fellow board members and the community, including the local NAACP, to make this a learning opportunity for myself as well as the community."
According to the Chronicle Tribune, Cathy Moritz' issued an apology Wednesday on her Facebook after sharing a meme posted by a page called "Conservative Women" that showed a photo of the actress and the words: "We stand with Roseanne. Share if you do too."

I don’t watch Roseanne but I whole hardheartedly agree with her twitter statement about Jarrett. She should have been an adult and kept it to herself though.
I still am unable to find the racism in either tweet.
So she’s not allowed to hold an opinion? she didn’t necessarily state that she agreed with Roseanne’s statement just that she supported her (possibly to keep the show, that she shouldn’t be crucified in this way).
If we’ve come to the point of society where people need to keep their mouths shut then we are no longer America in even word. We are now no better than east germany.

If you are saying you stand with Roseanne and Roseanne just lost her job, you should not be surprised you lose yours.
Use some judgment or use a well veiled pseudonym, (not letters from your real name like AmyMek).
Cathy Mortiz shoud have told those who objected to her personal social media page where they could stuff their backlash.
