Vanity: One Way to Try to Reduce Suicides

Posted on 06/10/2018 6:27:49 AM PDT by savedbygrace

Suicide is in the news lately. Many people have been committing suicide in recent years.

We are told the way to reduce that trend is to get in touch with people who isolate themselves.

That can help, but most people won't do it for a simple reason: they don't know what to say and even if they did, most people do not not to confront someone about a serious problem.

I think it might help some to know what they can say that is not a confrontation, so I offer this method that I will be trying to do more often:

Observe the people I know specifically looking for good reasons to sincerely compliment them, to give them a fine reputation to live up to. To give them sincere reasons to see themselves in a more positive light.

A lot of people who commit suicide leave notes that say nobody cares about them, and that they think they're worthless.

I want to demonstrate to people that's not true.

Restore the family and the church, and suicides will naturally go down. Destroy them, and suicides will increase.

It’s that simple.

Sure couldn’t hurt...and you will be blessed by it, as well. So not that I “believe” in fortune cookies, yesterday I opened one that said “Be your charming self today to everyone you meet”. Well....at the pharmacy, the grocery store, parking lot, etc, I made sure to hold my head up high, smile at everyone, and, ya know...felt great! And who knows, maybe it meant something to someone. :). Thank you for reminder..I’ll take that as my fortune cookie message for today as well..be encouraging to others at all times.

“Restore the family and the church, and suicides will naturally go down. Destroy them, and suicides will increase.”

While that’s true, another component is the constant denigration and belittlement of white, straight people. If the media, the school systems and governments at all levels treated any other element of society the way they habitually and hysterically treat white, straight people, there would be lawsuits and a public outcry. The cumulative effect of anti-white bias in hiring, story presentation and school is huge. People who might otherwise show no signs of depression are constantly belittled not for what they’ve done, but for what they are.

Incidentally, I had been performing well as a contractor in a defense job. I applied for the job and was told by the HR rep, who had the sense of an avocado, that they were only looking for a black person. Their contracts required a certain representation of blacks in their highly compensated personnel. That’s the sort of institutionalized bias that harms whites.

People commit suicide for many reasons, not just that of low self esteem. In addition, too many murders are wrongly determined to be suicides. But the single biggest issue is the reversal of the axiom that life is precious. That babies can be ripped out of the mother’s womb, without any negative consequences whatsoever.

A friend who lost a child a few years ago was ranting on FB the other day, saying that she was offended when people tell her how “strong” she is and that she wants to be told that she is “brave” instead.

This is how the simple act of compassion has been turned into a verbal minefield for people. You want to be compassionate and say something, but she is actually offended that you didn’t read her mind and choose the right adjective.

Talking to the person you think might off themselves is the same. You have to worry about saying the trigger word or phrase that does make them go do it because some people are that fragile these days.

A lot of the suicides are Baby Boomers, who've been raised to be "self-actualized", to have high "self-esteem", to look at "self" above all others.

When they begin to lose their sense of "self", they think life's not worth living anymore.

One way for people to stop killing themselves, is to get their minds off their own faults and problems, and look to Christ. As someone who's screwed up enough to mess up a lot of lives, you just have to learn to plug on, ask forgiveness when you mess up, accept forgiveness when you're asked to, and accept that life is precious and given to us by God.

My wife gets angry with me at this opinion, but I truly believe that Suicide is the most Selfish and Cowardly way to get out of your problems. I understand when there's serious mental illness that consumes and destroys some. Also, I accept soldiers or agents who kill themselves to prevent having information tortured out of them. However, most suicides I've seen have been permanent solutions to temporary problems.

Some excuse Anthony Bourdain's suicide. I don't. He left behind an 11 year old daughter who's going to desperately need her "daddy" in the upcoming years. And, if you believe in a just, righteous God, you understand Bourdain's problems are NOT over, but just beginning.

Emerson Lake and Palmer, 1973

(from their album, “Brain Salad Surgery”)

Karn Evil 9- Third Impression

Man alone, born of stone
Will stamp the dust of time
His hands strike the flame of his soul
Ties a rope to a tree and hangs the Universe
Until the winds of laughter blows cold

Fear that rattles in men’s ears
And rears its hideous head
Dread...Death...in the wind

Man of steel pray and kneel
With fever’s blazing torch
Thrust in the face of the night
Draws a blade of compassion
Kissed by countless Kings
Whose jewelled trumpet words blind his sight

Walls that no man thought would fall
The altars of the just
Crushed...Dust...in the wind...

its not nice to joke about this kind of stuff but what we’ve seen recently adds credence to the notion that liberalism is in fact a mental disorder..

I think you have done a great service by this post.

Many times it’s the simple things are the most effective.

Hopefully this will give people a purpose and - who knows - this may save/restore lives.

God Bless you.

You would have to ‘talk around the edges’ with these people. I had a girlfriend who was suicidal. Having me around made it worse. Any decent looking suicidal woman who has a nice body will be her own worst enemy.

She is neither strong nor brave. She is entitled. No one should have to bury a child but that doesn’t give one a free pass on simple gratitude.

Dude, you beat me to it. But I'm afraid your solution won't work. It's best we put both of them out of our misery once and for all. The Mexican mafia runs street gangs from prison.

Sadly, even those words couldn’t save the late great Keith Emerson. RIP.

It’s an age old management technique. Find someone doing something right and compliment them on it.

And it works for all the people around you, not just employees.
