‘Incredibles 2’ Even Stronger As Pixar Pic Soars To Amazing $180M+
Deadline ^ | June 16, 2018 | Anthony D'Alessandro

4th Update, Saturday AM after midnight post: Refresh for updates Incredibles 2 isn’t just a sequel to an animated film, it’s a sequel to an A+ four-quad movie and it’s acting like the latter pulling in everyone, largely adults with general audiences accounting for 57% of the audience. Note that parents are only repping 12% of the crowd per PostTrak with 31% kids. In the middle of the night we were spotting that Incredibles 2 was clicking to $175.3M and there’s a very good shot this all-audience pic is flying to $180M+. That figure alone is close to 70% of Incredibles’ $261.4M lifetime domestic gross. With Incredibles 2, Pixar earns its 7th A+ CinemaScore out of 20 full-length theatrical releases. Yesterday alone, including $18.5M Wed/Thurs. previews, Incredibles 2 made a stunning $71.6M.

At $180M, Incredibles 2 would rank as the 8th best opening of all-time, stepping over a slew of superhero movie starts including Captain America: Civil War (Previously No. 8 with $179.1M), Iron Man 3 (which would move to No. 11 with $174.1M), Batman v. Superman ($166M), Dark Knight Rises ($160.9M), and further down the list Spider-Man 3 ($151M) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5M).

Given the Marvel event-nature of this film, it really wasn’t a good idea for any studio to open any counter-programming against the Pixar sequel, and that’s one of the reasons why we’re seeing dismal results for Sony’s Superfly with $5.6M over three days ($7.8M since Wednesday) and a meh opening for New Line/Warner Bros.’ Tag at an estimated $13.7M. There’s not a lot of air in the marketplace.

I think the new Winnie The Pooh movie will be a money maker. Just about everybody in my family wants to go see it.

"Mr Incredible" isn't so "incredible" in this film. He's a PC, "stay at home dad", "minding the baby" while in our new SJW world, dominated by "strong women" in films and TV, Elastigirl saves the day while daddy stays home baby sitting the kids.

How predictable, funny and exciting. Sarcasm off.

Except of course you’re lying. He’s stay at home because the government considers his powers too damaging. His wife has “safer” powers. And he’s way less whipped than he was in the first movie.

I quoted the movie to my high school students all the time.

Helen Parr / Elastigirl: Everyone is special, Dash.

Dash Parr: That’s just another way of saying no one is.

“Your boy’s suit I designed to withstand enormous friction without heating up or wearing out, a useful feature. Your daughter’s suit was tricky, but I finally created a sturdy material that can disappear completely as she does. Your suit can stretch as far as you can without injuring yourself, and still retain its shape. Virtually indestructible, yet it breathes like Egyptian cotton.”

I'm not lying, your using semantics.

The writers conveniently create a completely bogus, "convenient plot twist", a phoney reason, which creates the same result: Mr. Incredible is forced to stay home and baby sit the kids while, Elastigirl saves the world.

The premise is ridiculous; it would be like saying "Superman", Ironman, Thor's etc... superpowers are "too damaging", they all need to stay home, and let the girl superheroes take over.

Yeah, right, that's the ticket.

It’s not semantics at all. There’s nothing bogus about it, it totally tracks with the first movie. Heroes were outlawed because they caused too much collateral damage, after the first movie they decide to unoutlaw some heroes, but the collateral damage problem doesn’t just go away.

Didja watch the most recent Superman movie? They leveled half of Metropolis. They ARE too damaging. They didn’t “let the girl” take over, they let the one that doesn’t throw cars around and level buildings do the work.

Edna - we went to see the movie this last Thursday - you were looking great - like you hadn’t aged a day in 17 years.

Seriously though, we all really enjoyed the movie - LOTS of laughs - even given it’s PG rating.

Highly recommended.

SPOILER ALERT:
Jack-Jack related scenes provide so many great laughs.
