PHOENIX (AP) The family of a Chinese college student came to Arizona to tearfully plead for harsh punishment against the woman who shot the 19-year-old to death after a minor car crash, but a judge honored a plea agreement Friday to send her to prison for 25 years.
Holly Davis, 34, was initially charged with first-degree murder for killing Yue Jiang after hitting her car in suburban Phoenix in 2016 but pleaded guilty to second-degree murder under a deal with prosecutors. Jiangs family traveled from China this week to protest the plea agreement, saying it demeaned the young womans life.
Her cousin, Katherine Xu, wept in the courtroom, repeatedly calling Davis a monster. She said Jiang was a hard worker who made her family proud when she got scholarships to study at Arizona State University.
All I want to say is no matter how much you dress yourself up like a human, the inhumane acts you did with Yues life will not disappear, Xu said.
Davis also cried and sought forgiveness from Jiangs family.

When the trial was going on for the 3 idiots who kidnapped and raped a school girl in Japan the victim and her father were asked about a punishment. They both said they would like to kill them.
Drugs are bad, M'kay.
I would too if that happened to my loved ones. Whats your point?
“Asians are not very forgiving.”
They let it go to trial, didn’t they? That’s pretty magnanimous of them in my opinion.
I say that because if Davis had shot my daughter I’d have paid to bail her out of jail and then treat her to a spa weekend in our 200 degree hot spring.
25 years for 2nd degree murder is not outrageously light. Just make sure she serves most of that.
An armed society is a “polite society” you say?
34 going on 70. Meth...
She ought to be shot by a firing squad IMO.
This kind of crap happens daily now.
“I dont find you a monster, but what you did was monstrous. It was senseless, and it was cruel, Judge Warren Granville said Friday.””
As you can see, this has nothing to do with an “armed society,” you made a foolish statement.
The monstrous act requires no weapon at all. Could have and probably would have, just strangled the driver if no weapon was available.
Both fully substantiated legal defenses.
She could’ve had a baseball bat and done the same thing - notice I didn’t say “guns”.
What I did say is that humans and scum that are armed will do evil things, happens every day - especially in Amerika!
You missed the point!
You didn’t say that all, and you need to spell America correctly and understand it has nothing to do with being armed and humans have always been capable of extremes either good or evil.
She’ll be out out in less than 5.
OMG! Drugs are deffinently not a victimless crime.
Amerika is no longer America.
Look around, maybe you think it is still? I’ve got beach front property in AZ for you if you do. It’s dying because of behavior like this.
Idiots riding around angry and murdering people because their lives suck and they’re selfish, self-absorbed jerks - this is synonymous with Amerika these days. It’s shameful!
Another poorly written story. Doesn’t say why the prosecutors did the plea deal, but there is usually some problem with the case or they didn’t think they could get the death penalty.
Lots of mileage on that one. But as the liberaltarians on FR say, meth is a victimless crime.
Not anywhere close to a death penalty case under the current rules. A good prosecutor and a so-so defense attorney and you might get a first degree conviction out of it.
Not enough facts here - was the killer able to get a good lawyer/Is she from a "good" family?
From her picture she looks like a tweaker.
Holly is like a car. It’s not the age, it’s the mileage.
