Researchers are hailing a breakthrough after they used cutting-edge gene editing to to significantly reduce repetitive behaviour associated with the disorder.
The technique, which was performed on mice, could also be developed to treat conditions ranging from opioid addiction and neuropathic pain to schizophrenia and epileptic seizures.
Scientists injected gold nanoparticles covered in a forest of DNA chains to alter the the genetic code of mouse models with a form of autism called fragile X syndrome (FXS).
The technique, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, resulted in in a 30 per cent drop in repetitive digging, and a 70 reduction in leaping, both indicative of autistic behaviour.
Because the editing DNA was introduced attached to gold particles, the team were able to control how much of the crucial Cas9 protein was delivered, in contrast to previous failed attempts using viruses

Could the technique be used to help lefties’ mental condition/illness?
Okay, cure autism before it starts? How about homosexuality? And so many other things? Designer kids? Good or bad, it appears we are moving in this direction.
If people were truly born as Sodomites, this could help eradicate those practices.
But as long as homosexuals continue to groom and recruit children, adolescents, and young adults, there will be a continuing Sodomite problem in society.
And genius.
CRISPR uses a modified AIDS virus to infect all the cells of the organism and snip out the offending DNA string and stitch the two ends back together.
It’s like writing a macro to remove a certain character string from all the files on your computer.
What could possibly go wrong?
Exactly.
What could be more disabling in modern America?
We still have to determine where all this autism came from when previous generations were not afflicted any anywhere near this rate.
Clearly there is some aspect or aspects of modernity which is the cause - which one(s)? Vaccines? Chemicals? Artificial food? Fluoride in the water? Something sprayed in the air? Television and media oversaturation?
Whatever it is, it seems a lot of people are deeply interested in not finding out. With the number of Americans affected by autism as high as it is, it’s obscene that it’s not a major health care priority.
Why is there such an outcry over genetically modified beans or corn, but not genetically modified humans?
save for later
Pass.
It won’t be a cure, it’ll be abortion.
Indeed . . .
Next time I’m laying traps, I’ll have to come up with special procedures. Of course, the first problem is how to spot them - hmmm, I think this could be the work of an autistic one.
