I read some time ago one man was designated by the system as having one wife. This is because according to Canadian law one cannot legally have more than one wife. At the time his 14 other "wives" were classed as single women. Each drew welfare for a single woman. I understand all were under one roof and handed their money to him.

I’ve heard the same about Mormon polygamists in the US. I assume any type of polygamist group factors this into their finances.
