Restaurant manager fired after refusing to serve customer wearing MAGA hat

The manager of a popular restaurant in Vancouver, Canada, was fired after he told a customer to remove his “Make America Great Again” cap or he would refuse to serve him.

Darin Hodge, the former manager of the Teahouse in Stanley Park, told Global News he stood by his decision to ask the man to take off the cap saying the hat represented “racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, (and) homophobia.”

“As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest’s choice of headwear while in my former place of work. Absolutely no regrets,” he said in a written statement to Global News.

Seems like that you’d end up with a lot of unemployed folks with some kind of ‘stand-issue’. And if there’s eight years of Trumpism, and maybe another eight of near-Trumpism...can a guy afford to be unemployed for sixteen years?

I love the meaning behind the MAGA caps but I don’t want to see them while eating or church like any other caps.

This is good news.

Business concerns that discriminate against classes of customers lose business.

But, it is basic freedom of association for business owners to be able to pick and choose customers.

We need the Supreme Court to reaffirm that basic human right.

What the guy did was bad, but it’s far better than having him go passive-aggressive. He could’ve said nothing, but gone ahead and contaminated the hat-wearer’s food.

For six more years, obvious Trump supporters might be safer eating at home or sticking to buffets when eating out - and BYOB.

...saying the hat represented “racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, (and) homophobia...

Isn’t saying something like that in Canada “hate speech?”

Depends on the type of restaurant. I can see wearing it in a casual restaurant or diner. In a fine restaurant you take of your hat.
When I was a kid, in church, the men took off their hats and the women all wore hats or kerchiefs.

Indeed, I will fly my Deplorable flag proudly in my heart but I’ll avoid bumper stickers and MAGA hats and shirts lest my car get vandalized or my (or my acquaintances’) restaurant order receive an Antifa spit-shower.

Good, you can scratch your unemployed a$$ and fill out job applications now.

I'm guessing his next job will be at a bath house.

They could have made him wear a similar hat while at work for a term instead of firing him.

I wore my MAGA hat in 2016 for a few days prior to the primaries and for a few days prior to the general. In my central Long Island neighborhood it is mixed. And as radical leftists are nuts, I don’t sport trump bumper stickers on my nice shiny truck (like to keep it that way) nor put up lawn signs in front of my house. I wouldn’t care to have to explain why there are bodies on my lawn.

If I lived in a deep red state I’d probably wear the thing more. But NEVER in a restaurant where people could do unspeakable things to my linguine with clams.
