I Was Wrong About Trump

Posted on 07/10/2018 6:11:36 AM PDT by Saveourcountry

I was wrong about Trump. I was solidly against him when he was running - knowing that he spent most of his life as a Democrat. I was at the point that I would have almost rather have had a Democrat in office that claimed to be a Democrat than another RINO claiming to be a Republican while ruining the country (not enough to vote for Hillary, or not vote btw). Trump has happily proved me wrong and I am now solidly behind him and happier than I have been, ever, with my president. Hopefully this SC pick proves to be the exact right choice for our times. Prayers are being answered.

Anybody else?

Good. Vote in the midterm elections, and tell other conservatives to do the same.

How far into his presidency was it when you had your epiphany?

Exactly.

Trump won, partly because he reached across the aisle.

You are exactly right.

I too have had concerns with his extreme left wing past. So far, without any exceptions I can think of, I have felt like his decisions and choices have been best for the true conservative American way.

One thing I have learned, is not to trust what he says, because he'll say anything for effect, position or as a tactic. What I do pay attention to, is what he actually does. So far his actions best represent what America should be, and he's starting to turn a very misdirected ship.

Trump was a Democrat (and so was Reagan) when Truman was what Democrats were.

I kept that in mind from the beginning and Trump was my backup candidate until more information about Ted Cruz moved him to the fore.

It isn’t that Trump is a conservative (he’s not) it is simply that he was the last nationalist left standing in a crowded field of globalist contenders and any nationalist is to the right of the uniparty peanuts in the shell game.

I was for Trump practically from the minute Señor Yeb stupidly claimed some sort of height advantage by standing on his toes even before the start of the first debate.

I got on board shortly after he announced as the rest of the pack were either ineligible or Bush League Republicans, or both.

I did not vote for him in the primary. But was totally on board after that.

He has been much more than I thought possible. I knew he was smart, but his policy decisions have been incredible.

Only obstacle? Turn off TV and enjoy life again.

Of course I spend huge time at the keyboard. Good and bad.

What are you talking about?

Donald Trump was a registered Democrat from August 2001 through September 2009.

He's identified with Democrats prior to that, saying "It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. Now, it shouldn't be that way. But if you go back, I mean it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats. ... But certainly we had some very good economies under Democrats, as well as Republicans. But we've had some pretty bad disasters under the Republicans."

His actions since becoming POTUS have definitely been conservative.

An earlier time, but Reagan wasn’t doing business, in an inextricably government-linked industry, in NYC.

I backed Trump from 2015, but he has already well exceeded my expectations. I had no idea the scope of what he address and how conservatively he was set on acting.

I initially thought Trump was a Clinton plant to split the vote.

I supported Cruz until he ran to the Bushes for help when he got in trouble. I then looked at Trump’s policy positions, and realized he was the outsider I’d been waiting for since Reagan.

I skipped over the corrupt Fake News media and listened to what Trump had to say directly.

Hopefully, there are a lot more people like you. Trump should get a landslide in 2020 and bring more people like himself into Congress.

Maybe it’s time for DJT to explain why he is no longer a Democrat. It might just cause a mass defection.

...his extreme left wing past.

Trump was never left-wing, definitely not "extreme left wing," especially by contemporary standards. He was pragmatic, as befits a businessman.
