CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A downtown Dunkin' Donuts is receiving backlash after an employee told a homeless woman to "stop 'hangin' outside" the store.
It happened Friday morning at the store on Court Street when someone went to go buy the homeless woman a drink. The owner of the store, Mike Benhase, says the employee making the beverage took "matters into her own hands."
"She had some sort of issue," he said.
That employee wrote the following on the cup: "Stop 'hangin' in front of the store if you have a fulltime job. -Mgmt."
Benhase says that employee is no longer with the company.
"When I found out what happened I was in shock. I just couldn't believe it," said Benhase.
A homeless individual that spoke with FOX19 said they knew the woman this happened to.
"You guys aren't living down here on the street, you can't say that," they said. "You can't judge anybody because everybody has a heart at the end of the day."
Benhase owns eight locations and has been in the business for 12 years.
"I've never had anything like this happen before," he said.
He hopes to get in contact with the woman the written note hurt and make it right.

Benhase, center.
Unless there is more to the story, it sure seems uncalled for to me.
Yes every time I see some sort of eating establishment with bedraggled people begging for money in the parking lot or on the way to the front door... it makes me want to stop and buy my food or donuts there. So this employee’s actions were no doubt intended to hurt business. /s
Homeless people is the new way the dems have figured out how to destroy this country to 4th world status, plus they get paid billions to do it by taxpayers.
Los Angeles paid 200billion in 10 years they have more homeless than ever. Guess who gets over 100k a year for being on a homeless gov dept? Yep gov employees.
Sorry rant off. Homeless major pet peeve of mine.
I wonder if the employee knew something...
Weve got people here that claim theyre homeless that hang out on packed street corners asking for money - a local news crew followed them around and discovered they werent homeless it was just a great way to make some spare cash.
We used to have a well dressed deaf guy go around town and hand out a piece of paper claiming he was deaf and asking for donations. Literally - ALL over town.
I was in a local shop and the guy came in and the manager asked him to leave. I knew the manager and asked why he kicked him out and he said that the guy was easily pulling in twice his salary while he was managing a store and working his butt off.
They're sure judging that ex-employee, aren't they?
While clearly wrong, I would not fire somebody for that. Teach them.
A newspaper story 20 years ago revealed a guy holding a sign on a freeway off ramp in Mesa, Arizona was making $500 A DAY.
That would not exhibit the appropriate level of virtue signalling.
If Dunkin Donuts wants customers to avoid the place—that is their call.
Was in Nashville recently. They have a major problem. Homeless everywhere and they’re pooing in public. Could smell it. Also bathing in the sprinkler systems.
Gotta do a few things
To make my life complete
I gotta live my life
Out on the street.
Click here and Ill tell you how! :)
DD has fallen into the same trap the dorks at Starbucks fell into. “Homeless” people are welcome to come in and hangout. ROTFL. Look at how that turned out. LOL.
That doesn’t make any sense.
Clearly, the homeless lady doesn’t have a full time job, so, I guess it’s okay for her to hang in front of the store.
I don’t think what the employee did is so wrong. If the employer did not like it he could tell her not to do it again. Nowadays some people try to signal virtue by being ruthless toward anyone who criticizes or inconveniences a member of a special group — blacks (for example the current socks in pool incident), and in this case a vagrant. Some compassion should be shown to people who do something thoughtless or politically incorrect.
I presume you refer to the note being written on the cup. I havent been at this store but I have been to many many stores in cities where homeless people camp out in front of the door. They beg for cash, usually don't want food if you offer that. They are there every day, all day. Some are filthy and seem deranged. Others are intimidating ... getting into your personal space when they aggressively ask for money. They get nothing from me. Others praise God and ask for help in a respectful manner, I'll often give them some change or a buck or two if I have one in a place where I can get to it without taking out my whole wallet. It's a mixed bag. Sometimes they give you a sob story about desperately needing bus fare to get to a place where their pregnant daughter is waiting and in need of help. But those guys are often back every day so I tend to discount that. Anyway, depending on the specific situation at this place I could easily see customers complaining.
I believe that’s the same story I saw covered on Phoenix news. He and his buddy were cleaning up. Said they’d buy a couple of cases of beer and rent a bunch of movies before going home in the evenings. They were making some big bucks.
They send a van to the homeless places in Los Angeles so they can sign up for welfare. It is terrifying how fast it is happening.
