There are actual studies showing diabetes can be reversed. Although this is not describing those studies, it is alluding to the general approach needed.

Is that the one I keep getting email from that claims you can lose 37 lbs, in 4 week?

Before insulin was discovered in 1921, people with diabetes didn’t live for long; there wasn’t much doctors could do for them. The most effective treatment was to put patients with diabetes on very strict diets with minimal carbohydrate intake. This could buy patients a few extra years but couldn’t save them. Harsh diets (some prescribed as little as 450 calories a day!) sometimes even caused patients to die of starvation.

It's only good if you want to lose a lot of weight and reverse type 2 diabetes. Other than that...

Before I started keto about 2.5 years ago I was 150 lbs heavier and while taking nearly 400 units of insulin a day (360 to be exact) had fasting blood sugar readings over 250. I'm now 150 lbs lighter, normal fasting sugars and I haven't taken any insulin in over two years...and never will again.

My wife and I are on a lower carb diet. We continue to easily lose weight, and our blood and other tests look better than ever.

We eat as much as we want of formerly “bad” foods. We do try to have a medium avocado a day. We use erythritol, xylitol, and other sweeteners to help.

Due to eating so much and to the general effect of what low carb does, we wind up skipping meals because we a still feel full.

We do not try to reduce any calories, and that is exceptionally “freeing.”

We started to lose a little weight before requalifying for life insurance. After two months, we both shot up to “preferred plus” rates and our total cholesterol to HDL was wonderfully good. Every marker said we were healthier than we could have hoped. My numbers looked as good as when I was working out every day, twenty years ago—and I don’t work out at all, now. I sit at a desk and barely move, but it doesn’t look that way to my life insurance company or to my doctor.

Don’t tell him what I’m doing!

Where did you get your meal plans for this diet? I have seen so many all wanting big bucks saying ‘This plan is the safe effective way” blah blah blah. I ‘m not sure which one to trust.

If you’re going on a very low carb diet to cure your type 2 diabetes, DO NOT CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR as often they won’t even be encouraging, following some other dumb government diet guidelines.

Truths:

1. A ketogenic diet will CURE your diabetes.

2. Most keto diets don’t take into account the gut biome so the gut bugs’ cravings will make your diet fail at some point.

3. If you go for a very low carb diet, and use the carbs you allow yourself to feed a healthy gut bug population, you will have no diabetes and no bad cravings and you will feel very good mentally. (The most beneficial gut bugs crave fibrous cooked veggies and cooked and cooled, reheated potatoes and other tubers.)

But yeah, it should work! You don’t even have to stay constantly “in keto” but avoiding all the sugars will cure the diabetes. You need to remember food cravings come from the bacteria, and the bad ones want sugar sugar sugar. You need those to die out and the healthy ones will crave roasted veggies and potatoes. I promise.

I wouldn’t ask my dr about anything diet related. He’s watched me lose 50-60 lbs over the last couple years and has zero understanding about keto/ low carb.

He wasn’t to happy about me dropping the Lipitor either.

I know a woman who was on insulin and medications and was still having problems keeping her diabetes under control. She went on a strict Keto diet and was able to gradually get off all of them. She did find out that she can’t eat pork as it wreaks havoc with her diabetes.

Very simple. Less than 25 grams of net carbs per day. No counting calories necessary. No watching fat at all.

Net carbs = grams carbs - grams fiber.

You will have cravings and you wean off of sugar and carbs.

Additional benefits - more veggies because you have to replace the junk food with something.

Many fast food restaurants will prepare the food low carb too.
