Amazon's Prime Day outages trip up shoppers

Amazon's self-created Prime Day holiday got off to a rocky start.

The retailing giant's website experienced periodic outages on desktop and mobile on Monday afternoon, right after the Prime Day sale began at 3 p.m. ET. Many shoppers hoping to score deals were instead met with photos of cute dogs, the company's standard error page.

That put Amazon in the doghouse with upset customers, many of whom have gone on social media to complain.

The issues appeared to affect other Amazon products and services. According to Downdetector.com, a website that tracks outages, Amazon's Alexa, Prime Video Services, and Amazon Web Services experienced brief outages.

My wife couldn’t find anything she needed. I didn’t bother.

It’s so busy nobody goes there anymore.

Felt the same in my first pass through but found some good stuff after digging a little.

I just see it like black Friday. Sales on crap nobody wanted in the first place, or deals to safe five bucks on overstock. I suppose if I was on a fixed income I’d wait all year for prime day. But I’m not that desperate - yet.

What’s kinda funny is that while everyone was at amazon, I was at tractor supply getting dog and chicken food. While at the counter I saw a greate 8x8x7 portable garage that was exactly what I needed for my $6,000 zero turn mower I picked up a couple months ago. Was $200, on sale for $100. So I bought it.

I wish I had another option to Amazon, but they are the only one I can get delivery from where I am located. No one else has any pathway for Freetown.

I kept getting that while trying to buy something last night.
It seemed to be a problem when searching; not a problem for looking at your account and purchasing something you’d saved to a list.

I’ve never seen much benefit to Prime Day. Almost nothing I’m watching goes down in price. Yesterday one item did.

I had one item in my basket that went down, as I was watching it periodically, but right before 3 pm, it went back up. LOL! It was still a good deal, much cheaper than it was months ago.

I have a “wish” list I add to once in a while, mostly toys for the grandkids I find in idle time, and buy later.

I noticed that, too - an item had gone down and then back up.

I have benefited lately from some of those ‘per cent off coupon at checkout’ deals; more in fact than I’ve ever done with Prime Day.

I read a story that compared prices 50 days before and after the sale that people saved 0.8 percent on Prime day.

0.8

LOL!

The best deal I saw was a Kindle Fire 7 for 29.99, like the one I have. But it’s out of date and with ads, and when I get a new one I want it ad-free.

They did have one item that was six dollars cheaper than when I had saved it, so I bought that. Other than those, I just didn’t see anything that represented much of a deal.

Got this doggie page for everything I tried to find. I went on to cusomer service and they suggested it was something I had already bought. I told them to forget about it and left the website altogether. This was a complete waste of time and farce.

There's a website Amazon Price History Charts that informs you if the product you are interested in buying is either up or down pricewise.

Yeah, I bought into the hype and looked around a bit.

Other than some obvious loss leaders, I didn't see anything that wasn't available at a better price somewhere else, or just some coupons that pop up on Amazon from time-to-time.

Lotsa hype, no substance.

If you bought a few more, you could help the "homeless" by providing shelter on your property.

Or not.

Bought a new blender for $100.00 off - that’s 33%.

Very happy!
