It is thought that the battle ship, which was discovered off the island of Ulleungdo, was sunken during the Russo-Japanese War and could have had the gold of an entire flotilla on board.

The Dmitrii Donskoi was an armoured cruiser in the Russian Imperial Navy’s Baltic fleet which was deployed to the Pacific in the 1904-5 Russo-Japanese War.

The warship would have taken part in the Battle of Tsushima which saw Russia defeated by Japanese warships.

It seems imprudent to put $100B in a single boat. Was it insured?

If I'm calculating correctly, 100 Billion British Pounds in gold, at today's prices, is around 3600 tons.

Seems excessive. I think there's a few extra zeroes.

I hope the warship wasn’t sent into battle while carrying that cargo.

As a general rule, you should avoid a major fight while carrying a heavy load.

The Armored Cruiser was not involved at the Battle of Tsushima but was caught by Japanese destroyers the next day.

Darn ... that was the same boat on which that I kept all of my firearms. Another tragic boating accident ...

A hundred billion in gold. Back when a hundred billion was worth something. It’s amazing that the ship didn’t sink at the pier with that much weight on her.

Solid gold shells would be useful then. And maybe more accurate as the targets would try and catch the shells. Hah!

That might cause some tension between China and Russia. Would that be a bad thing?

It seems that maritime salvage laws would be in effect, and the finders would have the best claim. Of course russia isn’t known for it’s strict compliance with international law.

Seems China is actually a partner in the recovery, but Russia is not.

I expect China to end up with 51% as usual.
