MUFON sighting numbers have been suffering as well. In 2016 their average monthly sightings were between 350 and 400 per month. In 2017 sighting numbers fell between 275 and 300 reports per month. In 2018 the sighting numbers started at about 375 and bounced between 250 and 300 per month, as shown on the chart.
As shown in the chart, in 2016 the combined UFO sighting numbers hovered between 700 and nearly 900 per month. In 2017 the sighting numbers were down from 2016, and hovered between 260 to its lowest at 240, with a brief upsurge in June to a little over 325. In 2018, the combined sighting numbers started out at about 340 and bounced back and forth between 250 and 300, but are still heading downward.
Since the June article, I have had a great deal of social media commentary regarding this downward trend. The comments range from “The aliens don’t like us,” “People are apathetic about reporting,” and “Perhaps there’s something astronomically going on with where the aliens are from.” One comment suggested that the aliens are afraid of President Trump’s proposed Space Force.

Square/rectangle silhouettes have been on a steady increase since 2010, while all the other common UFO silhouettes have been declining. Even the square/rectangles have shown a slight decrease in the past two years.
But one UFO that still continues to increase in sightings is the Saturn silhouette. The Saturn shape has been around for some time: One was reported in village of Norwood in St. Lawrence County, New York, in July 1833.

People don’t look at the sky anymore. You know what they look at, day and night.
The UFO swarms seen visually and on radar over DC between 7/12/52 and 7/29/52 were well documented by the newspapers of the day and photos exist. The Air Force finally announced that it was temperature inversions and then shut up about the matter. Temperature inversions...hah! Temperature inversions happen all the time so why don’t we have more photos of false sightings of the type seen over DC in 1952? It is because temp inversions don’t really do the stuff the way the AF said it did...especially over a 2 week prolonged period. Something wanted our attention and got it but a decision was made by the government to try to blank it out of the immediate attention of the American consciousness.
Yet the incidents were too well documented for them to be completely “forgotten” but the experts counted on the “normalcy biases” of Americans to eventually smother the incidents from our immediate concerns.
Many so called sightings are hoaxes or can be explained but the DC flaps of 1952 were genuine UFO’s. Someone knows somewhere what they were but that knowledge is above my pay grade.

Jeez. Of course there are no UFOs. Jeez. All those radar sightings around Los Alamos were swamp gas. Which the USAF dutifully spent years trying to shoot one down. Because they weren’t there. All those pilots and radar techs were drunk. Yes. That’s it.
The sightings may be down because smart phone users,when seeing the UFO, try to shoot a selfie of themselves with the UFO in the frame and when they set up the shot the UFO has moved on.....(/s)

UFO sightings always go up during Democrat administrations and plummet when Republicans go into office. Remember all the cattle mutliations, etc., in the 60 during Kennedy/Johnson? Jimmy Carter, who SAW a UFO?
Post-Ike, it seems that Dems bring UFO sightings. Pubs bring some rationality.
Aliens built better ships. The new square ones hold more tourists so they don’t need to make as many trips to view the animals in the zoo called earth.
They are already here and infiltrating. No need to fly the UFOs around anymore.
