“fake news” really gets the liberals pissed off. Let’s keep using it.
There are two reasons for the use of the term “fake news” for a lie:
- Hillary used the term first, and it feels good to throw it back in her face. And,
- ”Fake News” indicts journalism for claiming objectivity and telling whoppers. And our fondest hope is that “the media” has/is "jumped the shark” and is losing its ability to add ten points to the Democrats’ vote by conning the gullible.
The problem is that most fake news in the Democrat run media isn’t so much a lie, as it is either a slant or a distraction from genuine news which hurts the Democrat Party’s unceasing hunt for more power.
The majority of fake news uses the lie by omission. They state a few underlying facts, but purposely omit others that place the story in context thereby slanting the story to fit their intent.
CNN is way out in left field as is MSNBC, but the rest of the media (even Fox News) practices this - especially among the punditry.
An example would be the yearly articles about the ice melting and breaking away at the poles being an example of global warming when “most” of this activity (an annual and continual event) is caused by new ice behind the edge pushing it into the ocean. They create a narrative that man is responsible for it due to warming when it is far more complicated and natural and there are numerous variables that influence what occurs at the edge of the ice pack, but the most icritical part of the ice pack is in the depth of the sheet away from the edge.
They also take a singular event as National Geographic did recently with an emaciated polar bear (that had nothing to do with climate change) and they use that picture in time, with no context, to promote the narrative of anthropogenic climate change. That one is an outright lie and to their credit they apologized for it.
These are examples of pseudo news in that they are a form of punditry masquerading as news. I am pretty sure most Americans have really tired of the constant war by the media on Trump - see the decline of CNN, which is unwatchable it is so bad. They can only lie for so long and the list of doom and gloom predictions throughout my lifetime have not materialized so their credibility has been damaged going all the way back to the population bomb through the modern day TDS.
Fake news is often a lie of omission. What’s deliberately excluded changes the whole story.
Part of postmerdernism is to abandon the very concept of “Truth”.
You say that London is the capitol of France.
I say, No, Paris is the capitol of France.
You say, Well, that’s your opinion.
A thread earlier today reported that a Liberal claimed Obama achieved economic growth for 75 straight quarters.
That means that for the entire 18 years in which Obama was president, the economy grew continuously.
What’s that? You don’t think Obama was president for 18 years? Well, that’s like, your opinion, man.
"Fake News" is a useful term and more specific and a bit different than "lie".
First of all "Fake News" can refer to either the source of lies, as in:
CNN is fake news
Or may refer to a specific proposition told by the source of the lies as in:
CNN's latest report is fake news.
On the other hand "lie" may be used as a verb as in:
CNN just lied again.
But we would not use "fake news" as a verb. Nobody says:
CNN fake news'd again.
Nor do we use it with "told" as in:
CNN told another fake news.
And although the term "lie" is similar to "fake news" in that they are both sometimes used to mean an untrue proposition, the term "lie" implies the teller of the lie knows it to be wrong. "Fake News" just implies that its false.
Also "lie" is not used to refer to the source of the proposition like "fake news" is. For example if one were to say:
CNN is a lie
Its most plain meaning would be that there really is no such thing as CNN. It would only mean CNN tells lies as a kind of poetic metaphorical use.
And finally, "fake news" is limited in scope to sources of journalism or propositions from sources of journalism, where the term "lie" applies to everyone who says something untrue.
Women.
There is a sly reporter’s description of some stories as too good to check — meaning that you had better triple check them before publication. In the past, it was considered a breach of professional standards not to check such stories so as to assure that they are true, but today, they are the essence of fake news, with stories made up by sources and reported without being properly confirmed. The description of stories as fake news thus implies not just that a story is later shown to be false but also that the reporter and his editors violated professional standards and in one respect or another are being manipulated by their sources or are improperly aligned with them.
This is a very important topic that needs to be discussed.
Like other conservatives, I could never understand how the left can hold soo many hypocritical positions and not feel the need to resolve them.
By nature, I’m a problem solver. But in order to solve a problem you need to truly understand it. I’ve spent years trying to figure out this problem.
The problem comes down to why certain people (leftist) are more comfortable being lied too than Conservatives.
The answer is that those leftist are operating on what they believe is a “Broader” or “Greater Truth”. It’s pure Ideology. They don’t think or even know they are lying. They are true believers.
None of this makes any sense.
It wasn’t until I watched a few videos by Melanie Phillips in which she really defined the heart of the problem like no one else before.

Fake news is a lie, a lie is never news.
What’s the difference between fake news and a lie?
Absolutely nothing!
For me, all lies are fake news...but not all fake news are lies.
Fake News includes lies of course, but also other types of yellow journalism. Stories that accent one point of view heavily, stories that leave out (purposely or not) key information, stories that are chosen to be told when OTHER stories of more import are ignored.
Simple example: I watched a local Miami newscast the other day. The “news” on Trump in the entire 30 minute broadcast lasted about 2.5 minutes (yes, I timed it out...I was bored that day, okay?). Approximately 25 seconds was spent on the booming economic news. The rest? You guessed it: Russia Russia Russia. I couldn’t believe it.
So for me “fake news” can contain elements of truthful statements, but it is still fake because it doesn’t offer real information.
Maybe a good analogy is junk food. It’ll provide calories, carbs (mostly sugar), salt, etc. but you’ll not receive any real nutrition.
Fake News is what most “journalism” is today, even if it is dressed up in a Gloria Vanderbilt suit or delivered in a multimillion dollar studio with highly paid anchors.
Fake news is lying through a megaphone.
Democrats are serial liars.
They live Us versus Them. The issue is correct for Democrats because it benefits “them”. Therefore lies are Ok.
So fake is worse than a lie. Fake is not real.
You can lie to get a welfare check, or lie to vote illegal, but the check and the vote had better not be fake news.
