Air Force says no damage from Greenland meteor
Washington Examiner ^ | 2-3-2018 | Travis J. Tritten

The Air Force said Friday that there was no damage to Thule Air Base in Greenland after a large meteor fell nearby last week.

The fireball incident occurred just miles from the remote military base on July 25 and entered the atmosphere with a 2.1 kiloton force, according to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was 15 kilotons.

The Air Force 21st Space Wing monitors missile launches and space activity via sensors at Thule, and directed any questions to NASA, which did not immediately provide a statement.

I did a search before posting. I heard it on a podcast and looked it up. Hope I don't get scorched for using the Examiner...

Thanks for posting. I hadn’t heard about this. Don’t worry about using the Examiner, it’s articles are posted frequently these days. More reliable than the Wa Post.

Do they even threaten Airmen with being stationed in Thule Greenland anymore?

I got to Thule on June 14th. It was midnight, broad daylight and snowing lightly. I went to the Top of the World club for a meal and there was a sign by the entrance that read, “Sunset - August 23rd.”

My brother, RIP, was stationed there 67-68. I still have a little Eskimo carved statue he brought me.

The Air Force needs to recalibrate their equipment.

They missed this re-entry vehicle.

And the classic reply from a sloppy-dressed airman being chewed out by the visiting Air Force officer ... “Sir, I’m pumping sh*t out of an airplane at 2:00 am in Thule Greenland in mid-January. Is being “Put on report” any warmer?”

Thanks for posting this. The article I read early was along the lines of “Why is the air force hiding mysterious blast at Thule?”

"The fireball incident occurred just miles from the remote military base on July 25 and entered the atmosphere with a 2.1 kiloton force, according to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was 15 kilotons."

Typical example of how news becomes 'fake news'.

The landing wasn't "just miles" from the base, it was 30 miles away. This is a known fact. "Just miles", though, sounds a lot closer than "30 miles". And why the comparison with the Hiroshima atomic bomb? That helps spread the paranoid fear of atomic bombs.

An atomic bomb blast "just miles" away is quite serious, but it would NOT be the end of the world. There are many who would like you to believe that it would be.
