CHICAGO — At least 11 people were shot to death and about 70 wounded in a weekend burst of violence in Chicago that instantly became a political issue when President Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, blamed the carnage on longtime Democratic rule in the city.
Police on Monday attributed the dozens of shootings to gangs, the illegal flow of guns and sweltering August heat that drew more people outside.
The victims ranged in age from 11 to 63, according to police. One teenage girl died after being shot in the face. A teenage boy was fatally shot riding a bike Sunday afternoon. Other shootings took place at a block party and a funeral.
Even for Chicagoans all too accustomed to violence in parts of the city, the weekend stood out. By way of comparison, at least seven people were killed and 32 wounded during the long Memorial Day weekend, the Chicago Tribune reported.
"Our souls are burdened," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said. "It is unacceptable to happen in any neighborhood of Chicago. We are a better city."
Echoing comments that Trump himself has made repeatedly about Chicago, Giuliani blamed Emanuel — President Barack Obama's White House chief of staff — and decades of "one party Democratic rule" in a series of tweets on Sunday and Monday.
The former New York mayor also tweeted his support for Chicago mayoral candidate and former Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, referring to him as "Jerry" and calling him a "policing genius."

Days before the attacks, some 200 protesters marched through a well-to-do North Side neighborhood and briefly closed Lake Shore Drive, calling for more resources to stem violence in poor areas.

It’s what liberals do - get people killed with no regrets.
Why? There’s a ton of gun laws and gun free zone signs plus murder is against the law.
Democrats with absolute power for 60+ years...
There were no homocides, merely a reduction in the surplus population.
The reduction of 11 people from the welfare rolls will result in a savings to the city of $5 million over ten years.

I think Rudy would do best to stick to his brief. He’s the presidents lawyer in a specific matter. He needs to stop unproductively yapping so much in that matter, and keep the parameters clear
But staying out of other matters entirely. After all, we’re what, 3 months past when he said he was going to get Meuller wrapped up, so how about concentrating on that.
Let Rudy be Rudy.

I just wish there were other GOP spokesmen to do it.
Rudy’s loyalty to the president is solid, his credibility as a top level attorney or strategist is less than solid these days.
This would be a good opportunity for Mike Pence to raise his profile, which remains muted and quite low.
In a normal administration, the Attorney General would be speaking about the rule of law not being properly carried out somewhere. But that position remains effectively vacant for now.

But there is the nice pep talk.
I lived in NYC before and after Rudy became mayor. The man TOTALLY transformed the city and SMASHED criminal elements. It was stunning. No one has more credibility on this issue.

ANYONE SEE A LITTLE BIT OF FAKE NEWS HERE?
Rudy speaks to city violence like no one else. He speaks with authority and I’m sure Trump is thrilled when Rudy takes on Manny. I can’t imagine Mike Pence, with his slightly obsequious manner doing that!
