Argentina’s Senate Narrowly Rejects Legalizing Abortion

BUENOS AIRES — Argentina’s Senate on Thursday narrowly rejected a bill to legalize abortion, dealing a stinging defeat to a grass-roots movement that pushed reproductive rights to the top of the country’s legislative agenda and galvanized activist groups throughout Latin America.

The vote gripped the nation as opposing camps fought to sway undecided senators until the final hours. As legislators debated the bill into the early hours of Thursday, thousands of advocates on both sides waited outside Congress in the winter cold, and the Roman Catholic Church held a “Mass for Life” at the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral.

Proponents of the bill — which would have allowed abortions during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy — had hoped Argentina would begin a sea change in reproductive rights in a largely Catholic region where 97 percent of women live in countries that ban abortion or allow it only in rare instances.

In the end, thirty-eight lawmakers voted against the bill, 31 voted in favor of it and two abstained.

Just weeks ago, the abortion-rights campaigners appeared to have a good chance of success, stunning opponents and thrilling women’s rights advocates in nearby countries who were inspired by the Argentine battle. But opposition in Argentina hardened as Catholic Church leaders spoke out forcefully against abortion from the pulpit and senators from conservative provinces came under intense pressure to stand against the bill.

It’s ok in Ireland. Time is on the side of the pro choice people unless the US leads the way. Still it will never be illegal here. It will at most be returned to the states.

It would be wonderful if a registry were created of families/couples willing to take in children of young women in trouble. All the other issues would become minuscule. Hearts and minds would change over time. Would the left acknowledge that adoption was the right thing? They won’t even acknowledge the question.

I want a nationwide registry of women who have solicited for abortion. In fact, I’d like to see them all jailed, but I doubt that will happen outside the free states.

Yes it will, people do not like Abortion here and do not see it as a simple “choice” to kill an unborn child. The rest of the world can pound sand as far as I am concerned, we are changing America back to the way it was intended and the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness extends to the unborn who are unable to defend themselves but are still covered by this inalienable right

The pope did speak out about abortion in Argentina. This is not being reported by the media.

Abortion was forced on us by the Supreme Court in 1973. Until then only a handful of states allowed it.

But, the Americans as a whole, when given the chance to reject the killing of babies do reject it.

That is why Planned Parenthood has been forced down our throats by Congress.

What is so different about Ireland's vote is that he people decided that babies should die and God will not look kindly on them for doing that.

You better believe it.

Ap News says pro-life Argentinian doctors --- and they are in the majority --- have been publicizing Pope Francis's statement this year denouncing abortion as the “white glove” equivalent of the Nazi-era eugenics program. He has urged Argentinian families “to accept the children that God gives them.”

But the pro-lifers are going to need international help to fight off the international onslaught that's converging on them like a pack of wolves.

The danger for Argentina is that the country is mired so deeply in debt that the Globalists could use the IMF to effectively blackmail their government into doing ANYTHING.

Abortion is not about the right to not raise a baby, as falsely claimed by abortion advocates, but about the right to kill a baby.
