If We Silence Hate Speech, Will We Silence Resistance?
The Failing New York Times ^ | 8/9/2018 | Erik Nielson

Posted on 08/09/2018 8:33:12 PM PDT by Beave Meister

“Hate” is a dangerously elastic label. And it has long been used to demonize unpopular expression, particularly among people of color.

Apple, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify and most other major internet distributors took a bold step this week when they all but banned content from Infowars, a website run by the right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The tech companies cited their policies against hate speech for their decision, rather than the trafficking in fake news by Infowars.

It’s tempting to applaud this move, but we should be wary. While Mr. Jones’s rhetoric is certainly repugnant, mounting pressure from the political left to censor hateful speech may have unintended consequences, especially for people of color.

That’s because “hate” is a dangerously elastic label, one that has long been used in America to demonize unpopular expression. If we become overzealous in our efforts to limit so-called hate speech, we run the risk of setting a trap for the very people we’re trying to defend.

“That’s because “hate” is a dangerously elastic label, one that has long been used in America to demonize unpopular expression.”

Translation: it’s righteous to silence our political enemies, but it might come back to bite us. What a paragon of virtue.

I think the official name is now The Racist New York Times. Times management and staff are very proud of their anti-white racism. It shows them to be noble and self-effacing.

Only leftists are allowed to define “hate,” and “hate” changes according to their whims.

When even the Racist New York Times can see it......

Funny how Twitter considered Candace Owens’ posts to be “hate speech” when all she did was substitute the words “Black” in one instance and “Jewish” in another in place of “White” from Sarah Jeong’s tweets. As even the dimmest among us knew right away codes against “Hate speech” would immediately be weaponized to silence political opponents.

Thomas Sowell, one of the smartest people on earth! I have most of his books but my IQ isn’t high enough to read and understand his writings. But I try.

It is amazing how the left act as if the right to free speech should not include the right to be free of criticism for what words you use to express what you say — which what they really want is that other people should not have the same right to free speech that they claim for themselves.

Live by the tribal sword, die by it, kids.

The causal marker of a failing culture or self identified group or tribe is not its color or gender identification or religion or any other attribute per se. That may be correlative, but it's not causal. It's each individual's refusal, occurring en masse and usually either as mass hypnosis in the chronically unaware, or seeking identification with a collective, and hence mirroring the behavior patterns of the collective over rational evaluation of the reality around them followed by critical thought, evaluation, and choice ... to refuse to live by principles in line with how the universe behaves. Those laws include 'the nature of man' as a subset of 'the nature of the universe.'

Call it God or call it 'The Nature of the Universe.' Failed individuals, often banded together like lemmings by whatever extraneous attribute you choose, at an individual level refuse to abide by Natural Law. Just because most are simply copying each other and calling themselves by the same team name doesn't make it any less an individual choice.

Freedom from that collective is always available.

Conversely, the most successful, free and happy individuals are those who, perhaps appearing to be part of a collective/tribe simply because acting rationally and in line with Nature is an arbitrary and over time observable attribute around which, even in the absence of tribe forming, one could project a tribe ... simply go about their lives actually using the tools (observation, critical thought and consideration, choice) they were given by their Creator moment to moment. They may look like a tribe, but 1000 people in a room breathing doesn't make them a breathing tribe.

Each individual in these failing cultures or groups must focus individually on 'what works on this planet/universe' and stop behaving like the failures around them.

But alas! Man has since the dawn of his time, often chosen to copy repetitively negative-result-producing and often deadly behavior merely to belong (one should note this is actually an expression of the ego rather than a rejection or renunciation of it, but of course Satan always hides his ways), rather than act rationally and appear and be called out and exiled as a lunatic amongst his fellow actual lunatics.

If you're in a tribe, wake the hell up, think for yourself, choose for yourself, accept responsibility even when you inevitably and perhaps even often fail.

Being a part of a collective is prison and hell and slavery, unless you have chosen to temporarily participate and cooperate with others, with a known goal and a known exit path, as a means to an end, provided it is an end that Natural Law approves of.

End of preaching to choir.

Liberals and Progressives teach the opposite. Hence they are destroyers of the human spirit during life and always eventually murderers (anyone remember the 20th century?)

The only time I ever get close to feeling any hatred in my heart is when I think not so much of the murders, although they are plenty, but the BILLIONS who actually LIVED 10, 20, 80 years under the poisonous tyranny of these people and fake intellectual philosophies.

You don't have to murder someone to destroy his life.

Oops only meant to post one line :-)

Colleges continue to teach and turn out students that all too often cannot feel fulfilled unless they are telling other people what to do, to say and how to say it.....they are a ‘menace’ to everyone else’s freedom because they cannot think past the collective indoctrination they have received.

They don't even know what the resistance looks like yet -- let them try to suspend the First Amendment and continue to attack the Second.

If I'm going to be forced to live in a single party state, it isn't going to be the ****ing party of the NY Slimes.

And BTW, we'll be doing without the Slimes when that day comes.

Thanks Beave Meister.
