Yes I admire his work as well......and just keep reading his books, we acquire insight by good reads that feed and challenge the mind. Stretching the mind is great exercise!

I have a brother who is a genius in maths and sciences...and loves to share what he knows. He also reads people and situations very easily.....but he can as easily go over my head. Still I listen and learn just the same. There’s always something significant I gain by doing so and my understanding greatly enlarged.

I think that’s what’s generally happened with campus speech codes, they’re more often used against “people of color” than against whites.

If you silence any speech by government action you will face more resistance than you ever imagined. The mere suggestion is repulsive to any true American.
But yeah, of course the same idiots trashing Freedom of Speech today will find themselves the target of whatever dictatorship they spawn.

Concur, “Hate” bans is a new construct.

From my own recollection (not a science based research), it
started with ‘Hate’ based laws. Like if you murdered someone that was listed in a ‘protected status’ you got a harsher sentence. As if the murder of other people didn’t matter as much.

Then came along, if you SPOKE words (texted, etc.) anything that was against anyone or group that was on a ‘special list’ then you got punished after begging forgiveness from the world. Even your ability to earn a living the rest of your life would be taken away.

Now we have people even having to say ‘disclaimers’ before giving their luke-warm opinion of anything. Yet still watching their words to make sure they stay compliant to the new constructs.

If someone is bigoted with a dangerous bend, then they should be able to say it so we can recognize it. You only build resentment from those folks instead of educating them if you make them hide their thoughts.

If someone hates someone or a group, regardless if they are just ignorant or have a reason, then it is their right to hate. Hate is not crime. What you do with that hate is what is important. THOUGHTS and words expressing your feelings and thoughts are not CRIMES.

ACTIONS are CRIMES.

Words and FEELINGS are now crimes. If you are not threatening (or calling for) the lives or safety of someone then your words shouldn’t be a crime.

FWIW,

I’m a logical thinker, like most of us Conservatives. We recognize a problem and almost immediately begin to consider a solution. It’s our nature.

We’ve all seen the Left display the most hypocritical positions year in and year out that it should no longer be as maddening as it once was. Their just insane.

It’s still maddening and they continue without skipping a beat. In their minds, there isn’t anything hypocritical in their positions.

Leftist process information differently.

They truly believe what they say today, even if it contradicts what they said yesterday. They don’t recognize any contradictions.

For these Leftist, truth is relative and subservient to some “Greater Truth” that is based on what they think should be.

Finding a solution requires an understanding of the problem.

I’ve spent years trying to understand the problem. I can’t tell you how difficult it has been to understand the left and their illogical nature of thought.

None of it makes any sense.

It wasn’t until I watched Melanie Phillips that it all came together.

My last post was actually more of a rant.
Tossing in my .02 cents on this article topic -

Left doing what they do best, being hypocritical.
Their folks HATE other ideas and voices and to try to squash it and call it the dreaded CRIMINAL redflag leper laden label of HATE SPEECH. Yet they say the most nasty vile and threatening things about us (whom they hate with venom). Even attacking us with actual weapons and violence in public places.

Excellent rant. Well done. Agree 100%.

“Now we have people even having to say ‘disclaimers’ before giving their luke-warm opinion of anything.”

And what’s even curiouser is the necessity of a disclaimer when you speak positively of things that the libs hate, e.g., “I’m no fan of the President’s incessant, inflammatory tweets, but they sure are funny sometimes!”

The NYT has absolutely no credibility on the subject of hate speech.

"The RACIST New York Times- the paper for bigots and liars."

Yes.

"There’s no question that black nationalists often argue for racial separation or that many have engaged in bigotry. But it’s false equivalence to label black nationalists and white supremacists alike as hate groups. Doing so ignores the centuries of racial terror that gave rise to black nationalism, as well as the power imbalance that keeps it alive. And it gives a powerful tool to people who want to silence radical perspectives. They can call these viewpoints hate speech."

How do you reach this conclusion, that my hate speech is okay but yours is not? How do these poorly educated children of poverty grow up with such a slanted and inaccurate notion of history? And how do they justify hating the white people of today, blaming it on some vague notion of what took place decades and even centuries ago?

Until the attempted assassination in 1972 George Wallace was still a power to be reckoned with in the segregationist Party of the Plantation Owners, the Democrats. Lies, bribery of their token blacks and dishonest use of public funds have caused so much suffering in the American black community. The DemonRat segregationists have new catch phrases for 21st century separation, calling it "safe zones" in schools across America. It is not in their interests for black America to integrate with the middle class, but it is happening fast. President Trump received less than 10% of the black vote in 2016 but already 29% of black voters support him in 2018. Job opportunities and rising standards of living for those who integrate into the working class will send the NAACP and DemonRats into panic mode. All the vitriol coming from their "community leaders" doesn't trump a good paycheck at the end of a week's hard work.

As we can see at our open borders, the Democrat Plantation Owners have their hopes and sights set upon a new group of slaves to fill the ranks, working for peanuts while swelling the herd of ill-informed DemonRat voting ranks.

If you really want to silence something, silence stupidity. The peace and quiet would be so, so very refreshing....

It was not a hate crime merely because the person “hated” was a minority. You had to say something to make it a hate crime.

This is why whenever there is a dispute between two people of different races you will see others hanging on every word, because if it’s classified as a hate crime, the hater gets a worse sentence.

Interestingly, I think, is the fact that the French didn’t have hate crimes for the longest time. You could only be tried as an individual, not as a member of a group. Recently, when I checked it again before citing it as fact, I found that it had changed. France now has hate crimes.

On Tuesday, the Astros’ Tyler White hit a homer to beat the Giants, whose pitcher was a Caucasian by the last name of Black. I couldn’t resist the irony. My posted headline of the story “In the case of Black vs White, White wins”. My partner, who religiously posts the blog headlines twice a day on Twitter, didn’t post it, particularly after I dared the snowflakes on Twitter to come unglued over the headline, not understanding it was about baseball players who happened to be named White and Black. That’s how hypersensitive our goofy society is today. I could have rubbed it in their face with a headline about “White Power” but decided to be more subtle.

-- Rock meets hard place for the left... --

No, because the left is inconsistent and outcome oriented. There is no need to have "hate" be defined in a consistent manner. Just call those you disagree with haters, and be done with it.

I discovered Melanie Phillips a few months ago. Her persecution at the hands of her erstwhile friends on the left is hair raising. I hope she soon gives an address on the persecution of Tommy Robinson.
