If you’re discovering Deep Purple, “Lazy” cuts to the heart of their blues roots. My personal favorite is “Hush”. Deep Purple changed keyboards when they direct connected the Hammond B3 to a Marshall.
There was a lot of experimentation and variety in music beginning mid-60’s and continuing on through the 70’s that a lot of people overlook, or dismiss as psychedelia that actually was very influential, although you may never have heard of it.
Along those lines, the older I get, the more I appreciate The Velvet Underground. So out there at times, so simple at times almost childlike especially when Nico was involved. But, they were proto-punk, they were acid folk, they were rockers too, and you hear their influence in music to this day.
This one is a real period piece, the video is gorgeous, the sound has that faint childlike quality, but then listen to the lyrics, the arrangement and the guitar work. So peaceful, but digging down into it is very rewarding, a lot more going on than meets the ear at first listen.

All the money Rock stars make and you would think they would use some of it to fix their teeth.
The 70s. Great video and footage of the concert, as I remember them. Loved the street scenes and how they were incorporated into the music. That’s how it was in the day.
I’ve seen that and many other Deep Purple videos on youtube.
DP was one of my favorite bands back in the day...and I had every one of their albums. My favorite album was Fireball.
My vinyl reproduction of the original release is still very playable. Listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as “the globe’s loudest band”. Jon Lord was a master of the keyboards. Right up there with Richard Wright of Pink Floyd. Ian Gillian vocals (was the voice of Black Sabbath for a while) and Ritchie Blackmore shredding and Roger Glover(!) — You will not find any better music.
Vinyl has been the most stable, inexpensive, and most accurate form of sound reproduction in our lifetimes. And still is.
That’s what got a lot of famous heavy metal to form a band in the first. I’m happy you find it 40+ years after the fact.

Yeah, “Lazy” is another good one which shows their blues side.
I love “When a Blind Man Cries”, which is also blues influenced. Such a sad song. I have no idea why Blackmore hated the song and refused to play it. Metallica and Richie Sambora have recorded their own covers of the song.
I like “Hush” but my favorite song from DP’s original lineup is “April”.
