Batman No Longer Believes in God: DC Comics Turns Him From Christian to Atheist
Christian Post ^ | 08/18/2018 | Stoyan Zaimov

Batman, one of DC Comics' most recognizable fictional heroes, no longer believes in God in the latest comic book issue.

ScreenRant shared the storyline details for Batman #53, released on Wednesday, which comes at the conclusion of comic writer Tom King's post-Catwoman/Batman wedding arc.

In the story, Catwoman leaves Batman, whose secret identity is billionaire Bruce Wayne, at the altar. This leaves Wayne in a questioning state, where he explores his life and reflects on his theological background — he had been raised as a Christian by his father, Thomas.

In one exchange with another character, Wayne is asked, "Do you believe in God?" to which he replies, "I used to."

He reflects that his father "held hallow the immortal soul, Heaven, the Father and the Son."

His father also believed in "giving your will to your Lord, trusting Him with that will."

Wayne notes that he "put aside believing in a deity — or believing in anything my father thought had saved him."

The cemetery background of the strip strongly suggests that Wayne is referring to the murder of his parents when he was a boy, which is what began the character's journey into becoming Batman. The well-known plot point has been depicted in a variety of Batman movies to date, and is one of the defining marks of the character.

ScreenRant reflected that the revelation that the character seems to have become an atheist is not "all too shocking to comic fans," given that Batman's religious background has shifted over the years. The website noted that for a long time, Batman has had an implied Christian denomination of Catholic or Protestant.

The next film about Batman will reportedly focus on a young version of the billionaire superhero, though the new actor that will be taking on the role has not yet been revealed.

The Left should create their own characters instead of corrupting classic ones.

That would mean they would have to tolerate the classic characters still existing.

They’re in the business of corrupting.

Going back decades, the left has never created anything of their own, just infiltrated good organizations and corrupted them.

They should have been stopped in their tracks long ago, but now it seems they run the store, so to speak.

Batman is a Fictional Character.
God is real.

Batman has been around less than 100 years.
God is eternal.

Batman is a tortured soul who has not dealt with the trauma of losing his parents, and sublimates his confusion and angst by fighting crime.
God is Good.

Batman wears a mask to hide his identity.
God reveals Himself to us through His Word.

Final Score:
God 4
Batman 0

BTW...I like Batman, but he is not the arbiter of my Theology! LOL!

In a nation of over 300,000,000 people, with movies bringing in billions, these books can’t hit 100,000 in sales.

They were good back when they told stories that entertained kids and adults alike and didn’t fill them full of liberal bullcrap. Then they sold millions.

I thought this was awful until I pondered awhile. The notion of “super heroes” is not necessarily Christian to begin with.

Most super heroes have their own “gods” from their planet or time of origin. It’s a benign sort of misdirection from the Truth.

And let’s be real, doing good things does not make one a Christian.

many years ago I couldn’t understand why a friend of mine did not let her kids watch “teenage mutant ninja turtle”. now I know...it was the skewed philosophy.

Comic book figures won’t burn in hell for being atheists. Their human handlers sure will.

By the next issue Batman would have “evolved” to satanism!

It’s DC’s character, they can do with him as they wish.
However, it’s bad practice for publishers to upset their fan base.

I know Marvel ran into financial trouble some time ago. They sold the movie rights of Fantastic Four to Sony, I guess it was. Technically Marvel still owns the comic book rights but apparently Sony would own movie rights to any new FF stories, so Marvel isn’t publishing FF much any more.

Next they will turn him into a male prostitute to support his crack habit and child porn proclivities .... hey, he’s a comic book character that can be anything his perverted creator may desire!

Correct headline is that the current Batman writer wants to write a story about an atheist Batman.

The Batman of every version of the DC Universe I know of personally knows multiple aliens (starting with Superman), multiple magic users starting with Zatara and Zatanna, and including The Spectre who is the personification of Old Testament style divine retribution.

Theology aside, atheism would not be rational for a person with The Batman’s life experiences.

The writer, Tom King, is ex-CIA. Perhaps not germane, but just an interesting fact.

I believe the press is just s***-stirring. I’ve seen videos on this and he basically says he lost faith after the death of his parents and went searching for something in which to believe, but he never comes back and says he didn’t regain his faith.

I think the batman character would be an interesting character to explore anger to god being a motivator for claiming Atheism.. do a six issue series exploring the issue of anger at god for not being there to protect his parents and allowing there murder... storys when done right can enlighten those who read them.
