We don’t live in the high trust society that our grandparents and even some of us enjoyed. It really actually has changed, and not for the better. Diversity, acceptance of perversion by the larger culture, and people moving from one place to another, combine to work against the secure feeling it takes to let the kids go play. Also, having fewer children means worrying more about the one(s) you do have.
It's true. I have two sons and two daughters and I always joke I have one of each and spares.
I'm a Gen-X'er and almost everyone I grew up with has only one child or no kids at all.
When spanking became child abuse.
I rather think that is an aspect of each family’s priorities. My mother was one of 11 children, 9 who lived to adulthood. From what she told me over the decades they pretty much knew where they were and what they were doing as a tool of teaching the kids responsibility in communicating and family caring. My father’s family was a nightmare, from what I was able to glean. His family came from a different part of the country and his father was a real bad person. His mother died in her 30’s and his step-mother was driven from a normal-adjusted to woman to one who could only eat out of plastic ware because he drove her to such a terrible state of mind. And that was my father saying that during discussions. My father, at 15, ran away and joined the Army during the Korean War. When a young man does that it’s a pretty solid indication of a sorry home life. So. It really does matter on the family dynamics..then and now...
A lot of kids live in broken or fatherless homes...
My six children knew not to do stupid things...dad would find out and they get a dressing down or worse...
They had lots of direction when wandering off the path...
That is missing today in large part..
I might add God forgive the busy body neighbor who questioned me about how I handled my children...
Strauss and Howe affirmed once again. In the present generational cycle, children are overprotected by parents who themselves were underprotected. The last time it happened was to those who were children during the Depression and WWII, and the result was the teens of the 50s. If the cycle continues expect something similar with teens as we get deep into the 2020s.
These helicopter parents are living vicariously through their children.
Toss in a huge amount of arrogance and insecurity, they lead their child’s lives for them, telling them what and when to do everything.
I know parents that still call their adult children each morning, midmorning, noon, afternoon, and night to schedule their day and tell them how to act and what to do.
They steal their children’s’ lives from them by not allowing them to live their own life.
1. Instead of 13 kids or 10 kids per family as in the earlier centuries, people are raising fewer children, hence no replacements.
2. Perverts. In the old days there weren't as many/they knew that justice would be swift and terminal. Used to be that institutions like the Boy Scouts were safe but now that the imbeciles that run the Scouts think that a homo is an ideal person to take your kids into the woods, forget that.
3. Random violence. How often have we seen where drive-by shootings - usually gangs - killed a lot of people the morons weren't even aiming at?
4. Traffic. Where we used to bicycle, play ball in the streets, every dimwit that feels like drive as fast as possible to get to Point B without a lot of regard for innocents in the street.
5. Drug dealers. Kids somewhere out of direct view are quickly targeted by the swine who make their living killing everyone else off with their crap.
Need I go on? If you didn't already know the answer to the question then you aren't a parent.
My parents would have had us taken away too-and would likely have been prosecuted right along with an aunt, an uncle and their spouses-I grew up on a remote working family ranch in W Texas that included livestock, a 2-truck shipping/hauling business, gardens, orchard,60 acres, 3 houses. We roamed all over carrying guns, hiking or riding horses-all unsupervised-as long as we were home for dinner (unless we were camping out) nobody worried-we loved it when one of my uncles would haul cattle or goats across the border to a buyer in/near Acuna because we would get to go along in his rig and wander around the mercado with the money we made from ranch work, buying leather stuff, food items mom and aunts asked for, etc and eating food bought from (gasp!) street vendors-by the age of 4, we all spoke Spanish and knew about stranger danger so nothing ever happened.
Hubby and I brought the cub up the same way, and nothing ever happened-but if we’d been living in a city when she was little, I’d probably have been jailed for neglect-CPS was getting crazy controlling in cities even in the late 70’s-early 80’s. I worry about these little snowflakes being brought up by wuss/snowflake parents-I don’t see how they will survive the “real” world when they are adults...
Also this coincides with women now running everything in the country. Modern women see danger, rape, kidnapping, sex abuse, etc everywhere they look.
They find the hidden “danger” in every sane activity people used to do and pass their nutty fears into their kids.

Parents have to let their children breathe and experience life for what it is. Sheltering them does them great harm later on.
I loved the ‘3:15 to Paris’ movie scene where “Pam Beasley” is at a parent-teacher meeting when she declares emphatically, “They’re looking out the WINDOW!?!”. ‘Got a charge out of that one.

I have two boys, 9 and 7 and two girls, 2 and 6 mo. My wife is a stay-at-home mom and I work usually 50-60 hours a week. The two boys are pretty much free range kids. They do what they want. I kick them out of the house, tell them to go ride their bikes. Sad though, there's rarely ever other kids outside for them to play with.
Youngest son currently has his arm in a cast. Fell off the playground equipment joking around with his brother.
Eh... It happens. Broken arms. He'll learn to be more careful. That's how we all learn. Or at least that's how kids used to learn before the world was covered in bubble wrap.

I took my daughter to the park even today and I hovered around. I let her play with other kids but there are kids as young as 10 being exposed to pornography.
These kids can’t process what they see. They’re kids !
So yeah, I never, ever turn my eyes off of her for even a second.
Really, the pervert-to-normal ratio is quite out of line.
I’m still laughing at that idiot woman pervert who went after Harvey Weinstein — while paying off an underage kid she molested.

With the inception of 911 as an emergency number and when children in school were encouraged to call on parents who corrected their children
When government decided your children were not yours but only in paying for their needs and nothing else and if you were on welfare then they weren’t yours at all but government property
When corporal punishment was deemed cruel and unusual in school and considered child abuse at home
When Time out was considered punishment enough for anything and everything
When Psychologist never having children begin to tell you how to raise your children !
When parents were held accountable for their children’s behaviour but were not allowed to modify that behavior in fear of being modified themselves for modifying behaviour {dont interfere with government modification} schools
But the most important in my opinion the removal of God from everything God and man has created together including the inception and replacing it with liberalism and abortion

And what do you think may happen one day, when this kid who has never spent an unsupervised second when they finally get a chance at freedom? Being watched -constantly- is mental abuse in it’s own right.
