My local police department allows citizens to sign up for notifications of registered sex offenders who move into the neighborhood. I dont live in the ritziest part of town, nor do I live in the worst. But it it shocking how many registered sex offenders live within a 3 mile radius of me. It seems that there is no shortage of perverts. With the ready availability of pornography online to stoke sexual desires, unattended children make for easy targets.

One thing to think about with the sex offender lists. Unless you read them deep, it’s hard to tell the real nature of the offense.
A 18 year old boy gets caught with his 16 year old girlfriend will get him on the list in some areas. so will peeing on a tree.
I had a guy on the list who lived near me once. It took a lot of research to see just what his offense was. In my world, he’d be swinging from an oak tree for what he did.

I subscribe to a credit monitoring service that pings me whenever a registered sex offender moves into my area.
A few years ago I was notified that a registered sex offender who happens to have the same name as me moved in a couple blocks up the street.
I just hope somebody notices that he's twenty years younger than I am.
