First shelter to pay out for a fatal dog attack is sued again
FORT WALTON BEACH, FloridaThirty years after becoming the first animal shelter known to have been sued successfully for liability in a fatal dog attack, the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, has been sued again, this time for alleged failure to prevent the March 25, 2017 disfiguring mauling of Zoey Green, then age 5, by a neighbors pit bull.
The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $1 million against the defendants, identified as the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society itself and animal control officer Kevin Schoeneman.

States the lawsuit, filed on Zoey Greens behalf by her mother, Paige Woody, At all times material, Mandingo was a 100-pound male non-neutered pit bull owned by Lodie Hennessy, 55, whose then-home at 186 Villacrest Avenue in Crestview, Florida, is now up for sale as real estate owned, at an asking price of $135,000.
According to a detailed account of the attack on Zoey Green by Northwest Florida Daily News reporter Wendy Victoria, published on March 29, 2017, Paige Woody said she had agreed to pet sit Mandingo and another dog at their home while their owner worked in the south part of Okaloosa County. Paige already had been there twice.

On the day of the attack, Victoria recounted, the owner asked her to come over so she could show Paige how to apply a horsefly spray to the dogs. . . "

The whole article is hard to read because of the description of extent of damage done to Zooey. Its put bull supporters who are to blame. This dog had a history of biting other animals and was still allowed to be adopted out.
I am a realist not a dog hater and I support these posts 100% .
I am at work, literally walking distance from PAWS.
Volunteers walk the dogs past my workplace every day...................
Thank you, Norski.
Half the solution is recognizing the problem. Keep it up.
Flagged for abuse .
Once again, pit bull math:
1 pit bull + 1 9mm = problem solved
You just can’t stop the Dog of Peace® (or those, who tirelessly defend them).
buy some pepper spray!
I didn't know that there were any animal shelters around that would put out unfixed animals.
Where is the abuse in that post?
Smells like punka$$.
Finally a hint of common sense, but you missed the boat...badly.
The issue you should be addressing here is not as the article you post asserts, something I pointed out about your posts last night.
1. Shelters are not supposed to be adopting out unfixed animals
2. The shelter should have been put out of business after the first case,
3. The people who got this dog were too dumb to do their homework and ask amy questions whatsoever,
4. It should not be possible for a shelter to get insurance without an exclusion for certain terrier breeds (i.e. pit bull) without very specific license to vet the dogs.
Censorship a la Facebook methods.
Where is the censorship in that post. The censorship seems to be on the part of the one that called post 3 abusive.
That's what I meant. I guess I didn't make myself clear - post 6 was the target.
OK, thanks. You and I are on the same page, then.
I'll blow a hole in your dog.
How's that for starters?
