In general, I think there’s far too much hysteria about protecting children these days, but leaving a 2 year old in a hot car with the windows rolled up for 25 minutes is dangerous and could be fatal. Glad someone spotted these kids and got them out.
The kids are just about grown up now and I don't remember the last time I went to MickeyD's or BK.
Way to go dumba$$
There was a K9 unit the cop left in the car and the Dog died in I think down in Charlotte the other day.
It doesn’t take much to get HOT in a car without the windows down or A/C on.

ResultsAny time
After one hour, the average car is 43 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. After 90 minutes, the average temperature difference is 48 degrees. On a 90-degree day, that equates to 138 degreeshigher than the hottest outdoor temperature ever recorded on earth.

Something doesn’t look healthy about the officer. Where was the mother, and what shopping took 25 minutes in the store? He was up to no good.
Agree
Its possible he was trying to kill those kids
I had not looked until now. I agree, he looks like he’s been Partying for several days. I’ll guess some Meth in the beginning followed by heavy drinking for a day or two.
I Pray the Boys are OK with no long term effects.
Let’s see if he gets a pass on this in the end after the “shine” wears off the media story...
"...hysteria about protecting children these days..."
High 86*F + 23*F =106*F
Add Sun magnified by glass and no wind inside car AND what colour is the car, the darker it is will make it get Hotter.
I say we should lock him in the car in the same conditions for a while.
I guess it depends on the time the kids were left in the car. 7 am? Temp 60 degrees not a problem.
12 noon 86 degrees, problem.
Why would he deliberately roll up the windows? Never mind he seemed to be hiding it.
But now, on my soapbox.
Again, this story involves those damn car seats.
This is the problem. Dealing with those damn things is a pain, so many would rather leave the kid in the car than get them out and in again, especially for a short visit.
And forcing kids in the BACK seat additionally leads to more people forgetting the sleepy kid is in there and they get fried accidentally.
I guarantee this wasnt much problem in the days before forced subsidizing of Grace and Evenflo.
Seriously, youre asking why one would be in the grocery store for 25 min? We take an hour-half for a real shopping run, and for few things can easily end up being about 25.
Exactly.
These damn baby seats are treating them like babies and a 5 yo does not need to be stuck in a bunch of straps.
I am BETTING the 5yo has the deluxe booster seat, which looks just like the real serious toddler seat (i.e., looks like a miniature portable legless chair). He has to know how to not only reach around to unbuckle, but to get the strap out of the nooks all over the chair (often includes cup holder!). If you dont show them, its kind of confusing.
We got just plain booster seats for our son when he was old enough for the nanny-staters. These are cheap and simple, literally only the bottom, and the strap easily comes off. The child can easily manipulate the shoulder strap.
Im sick of these safety NAZIs who just create another real problem when solving another possible problem.
Also, how Situated?
Did he deliberately try to park them in a shady area? I cant really tell what is meant by back of the lot in that location, but there are some trees near some edges and the building can shade early or late on one side.
But the whole back of the lot makes me think maybe he wanted to hide the fact he didnt want to remove the kids.
you look crosseyed at the dog and you will be charged with assaulting an officer, they roast one to death and it’s just a dog...
Exactly, I’d like to lock this cop and the one that locked the 2 Boys in the car in Charleston, WVA in a car for a few hours with an Ambient of 100°F. In shackles...
