The French government announced on Tuesday that it will push ahead with the long-planned reform to deduct income tax directly from workers’ paychecks on a monthly basis from January 2019.

After days of wavering and speculation that they would ditch the reform, the French government finally announced on Tuesday that from January 2019 workers will indeed have their income tax taken directly from their paychecks automatically.

The change will see most workers in France have their income tax automatically taken out of their wages each month by their employers, as is the case in most other European countries, rather than the current system which sees employees pay income tax the following year in installments.

The reform will affect some 38 million households in France.

The reform was first due to be implemented in January 2018, but was delayed a year because President Emmanuel Macron wanted time to make sure the reform was actually worth it and to smooth out any problems. …

But then afterwards, they had to pay their tax in installments. Got them either way.

Not only that, but universal cheating. Simple stuff like W-9 and 1099 equivalents not matching up, that is never audited. Stricter matching will increase tax collections, but possibly also create the political impetus for a low tax party.

Anyone who has any vehicle which isn’t behind a razor fence with an armed guard should probably contemplate what their next car will be, since I bet it’ll be burned to a crisp come New Year’s Day morning.

Come on, France, I know you can top 59,000 cars burned in a single night!

The money to pay for the hordes of homicidal savages that France is importing has to come from somewhere.

“Just like here you mean?”

Amazing that the french government was less coercive than ours.

We’ve had mandatory payroll tax deductions forever!

...”the current system which sees employees pay income tax the following year in installments.”

So does this mean next year, it’s double-jeopardy for France, as they will not only be paying 2018 installments but tax from each paycheck? Talk about plunging their country’s economy like a submarine deep-dive...

How long will it take for the panic to set in and they all hit the streets? But~~the muzzies will probably get a pass so every large city (or just every place with a standing building) there will stay standing.

Who invented withholding? genius. Steal the money before they even get it. They’re so stupid they won’t realize we’re taking their money.

What is amazing is that they voted for high tax politicians. I always thought that if you had to set aside money to send in your taxes later that it would make for less generous voters.

But then again, they also have the Value Added Tax which is a separate revenue stream.

I believe it started in WWII. Up until then, the average worker didn’t owe income tax. (It was started as just a tax on the rich). Up until then, if you owed money, you paid the whole bill on March 15—later April 15.

“But then afterwards, they had to pay their tax in installments. Got them either way.”

The French government got tired of accepting wine, cheese and goat meat at quarterly tax time.

Who invented withholding?

Milton Friedman, the famous free-market economist came up with the plan to withhold taxes.

Later in life he would admit that it was probably his biggest mistake.

Geez, an accountant for Macy’s figured out this scam in, what, 1938?

And they’re just figuring this out?
