Beware the traitor, we are finding out. History will probably record that high-ranking government officials tried to overturn the election of Donald Trump. History, I suspect, will use the word coup and will call these people traitors. This is unpleasant stuff but also clarifying. A small group of people, well organized and focused on the same goal, can overturn and destroy much larger organizations.
John Dewey and his supporters, a century ago, did not think of themselves as traitors, nor would they use the word coup. But they organized themselves in exactly that fashion. A few hundred professors of education took control of Columbia's Teachers College, et al. with the goal of creating "progressive" teachers who could be sent out to the public schools of America to create a new kind of citizen, more cooperative and pliable.
Laurie Rogers, one of the sharpest critics of our Education Establishment, sees an abundance of betrayal. Her blog was titled "Betrayed – Why Public Education Is Failing." Her 2011 book is titled Betrayed: How the Education Establishment has Betrayed America.
In 2008, she summed up nearly a century of public school decline:
The dizzying downward spirals of skills in science, technology, engineering and math are jeopardizing students' futures and the nation's stability[.] ... Many of the people who built this failing education system make money off of it as it crumbles around our ears[.] ... Most of the people in the education establishment refuse to engage in this conversation (leaving students and parents to work it out on their own)[.] ... Of the rest, most neatly sidestep any blame for the tragedy as they foist blame on parents, teachers, money, legislators, society, hormones (yes, I've actually heard that), and the students[.] ...
Rogers does not see accident or fad. She sees active betrayal....

One was in the hard sciences, the other was in English and to tell the truth, I had no idea what their politics were and still couldn't tell you today. WHY? Because they actually taught their subject, never ever introduced any, not even a hint of, politics of any kind, into their lectures nor exams. It was just facts, facts, and yet more facts...devoid of any opinion.
I was lucky to have had them as profs; they were two of the best teachers I had in college and grad school. And I'm glad that I went to school before the lefty indoctrination went into invade every level of education.

This is a scarce book. ABEBooks shows 20 copies new and used startingat $30 plus shipping and going up to over $200. It needs to be reprinted by a mass marketer and in an inexpensive edition.

Note, it’s the professors of education that are the problem. Teachers College at Columbia is the problem. They are committed to progressive theory and the ghost of John Dewey.
She seems to be mostly retired. I had to give her whatever credit I could. i liked that quote so much.

Yes, though the damned Dewey and his followers ARE, indeed ensconced In Columbia Teacher's, this crap did NOT pick up much steam until after I finished all of my schooling, for which I am extremely grateful! Likewise, it really hadn't thoroughly infected ALL schools ( though it had begun to and colleges were getting quite bad ), when my progeny was going thorough all levels of school.
By the late '20s/'30s, only some out there/way out PRIVATE day schools were infected with this crap ( as well as with moronic Rousesauian garbage and other such insanity ) and no, colleges and universities were NOT and weren't until the late '60s.
And now, you've learned a even more concise, short version of my "nopardon's style Cliff's Notes" of the history of American education. :-)
I didn’t know about Dodds so I found this, which is informative.
I find that even before 1920 there were people trying to transform the US secretly, as opposed to getting involved in politics and working for change publicly. Commie-type people apparently.
