FULL TITLE: Two Miami Dolphins wide receivers become first players of 2018 season to take the knee during national anthem, just hours after Trump blamed the sport's poor TV ratings on the ongoing protest
President Donald Trump is slamming the National Football League for low ratings and blaming players for protesting during the national anthem as two Miami Dolphins players took to the knee Sunday during 'The Star Spangled Banner' as football season began in earnest.
'Wow, NFL first game ratings are way down over an already really bad last year comparison. Viewership declined 13%, the lowest in over a decade. If the players stood proudly for our Flag and Anthem, and it is all shown on broadcast, maybe ratings could come back? Otherwise worse!,' the president tweeted Sunday.
The NFL's opening showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons on Thursday evening earned only a 13.4 overnight Nielsen rating on NBC, the network announced Friday.
That is the smallest audience for an NFL regular season opener in the last 10 years, according to Sports Media Watch.

I turned on the TV this afternoon, and it was the Cowboys vs. whoever, I could not get to the remote control fast enough to turn that NFL GARBAGE OFF!
To think that used to be my Sunday and Monday night love. No more!
Hey.........they just want a Nike deal, too....dammmit!
Stupid is as
I love the excitement, fellowship and pageantry of a football game, but I won’t be ‘entertained’ by a league that makes insulting my values and dishonoring my flage part of their gameday ceremonies.
Sunday afternoons are better without the NFL. My dog gets more long walks and my lawn is better mowed than ever before. I’ve taken up kayaking. I’ve lost 30 pounds and my A1c is down to 5.5.
Patriotism is still on the menu at most high school and college football games.
Hopefully, they reap just rewards for their turning their backs on their country.
A inspiring counter story if I may:
This last summer around 70 or so of our teens were waiting for a summer day camp counselor training session at the church. A funeral for a veteran happened to be going on while they were gathering and the flag folding/presentation ceremony was held outside the front of the church. When the ceremony started all of the teens stood and faced the ceremony in quiet reverence for 15 minutes. No adult prompted them to do this. I came out of the rectory just in time to see this beautiful expression and was very proud of all those young men and women. From SoCal no less. God bless
Eff the nfl forever!
Taking a knee to protest the US free speech to be celebrated.
Criticizing people who take a knee =racist hate speech to be banned.
Why dont they have a huge flag burning ceremony at the beginning of each game?
Screw the NFL and the spoiled bastards who play in it. Screw the team owners who didn’t have the sense to stop this before it went too far.
This is nothing more than leftist performance art, and an attempt to rub our faces in the idea that we are powerless to stop them.
Let the Nike Felons League crash and burn under the weight of its own stupidity.
I took a knee too.
I want to be entertained.
All it took was these two intectually bankrupt savants and I won’t be watching again this year.
I work 10 mins from Raiders ...
I watched an entertaining France-Netherlands soccer match.
kneelers = WR’s -Albert Wilson & Kenny Stills
LOL. and the gutless Roger Goodell and the wimps at the NFL will do nothing.
I will SO enjoy watching this league die.
Trump knows they ‘ll respond to his tweets by doing more dumb things like kneeling. Lol. The Donald.
I am more interested at peeking to see how many empty seats rather than who is taking a knee.
So far, I have missed the opening minutes — Thursday and today. I suspect pix of the empties will be showing up today and tomorrow in various threads.
Glad to see the kneeing stopped for one week at least on the Eagles - Malcolm Jenkins, the leader of the pack, has been pretty quiet and invisible lately - and after Coach Pederson had a meltdown with the press last weekend after being pestered with questions about who his starting QB would be, he came out quite contrite and mush-mouthed the next day, even announcing at that time that Foles would be starting - I’m guessing Laurie, Roseman, and/or others high up in the organization have had enough of the nonsense and bad press, and put some collective feet down.....
They were probably on their knees in the locker room earlier.
NFL ... GTH!
you ain’t getting one thin dime of this consumer’s $$$ now
