Very true about their misplaced priorities and humanity.

Some say it all started with Lincoln and went downhill from there.

Real “pressing” issue they’re tackling right here. I know when I see Gallup polls of the things that concern Americans the most, ‘eating cats/dogs’ usually comes in first, just above ‘the economy.’

Exec power brokers recently overheard saying there’s an awful financial reset ahead.
Maybe this measure will at least ensure our pets are safe from starving neighbors...

Oh, my! I can hear the Chinese and the Koreans wailing at the unfairness of this bill.

I am totally against the government telling people what they should or should not eat. This is yet another instance of conceding power to the federal government. We are not like the authoritarian muslim arab nations who ban eating of pork, or India, where the Hindu fundamentalist government banned eating of beef.

I think it’s that that it was legal. I think the concern was that it wasn’t illegal, yet. Sooner or later some Third Word person would try to sell Cat &/or Dog for eating and it would end up going through the courts. And even worse, the treatments given these poor creatures before being killed is simply horrific. Glad someone with a semblance of sanity is thinking ahead.

The House has passed legislation that would outlaw the slaughter of dogs and cats for food – a practice that, although rare, is still legal in 44 states.

So, why do we need this law? We want to have a federal law to prohibit something that rarely happens? Forty-four states haven’t found it enough of a problem to legally prohibit the practice, why is it so necessary for the feds to get involved.

Doesn’t this law need a statement like ‘may not be transported across state lines for human consumption’ to fit within the limits of the constitution?

While I dearly wish Abortion were illegal, it’s a separate issue. I wish the folks in the House were as concerned for the Children as well as the furbabies.

While on a business trip to the Philippines in the mid 70s I was forced by circumstances to eat a dog meal.

As “The Patriot” said, “Dog makes a fine meal.”

“feline fricassee”

From YT: Michael Landon Pulls Funny Prank on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, ~2.6 minutes

BTW, "fricassee" is French. There's an area of Italy that's big on cat meat dishes.

OTOH, French markets sell rabbit with the head still on to help the consumer make sure it's really rabbit, and not a kitty cat.

And in China, one province holds an annual dog meat fest around the Summer Solstice.

Thank you for referencing that article MarchonDC09122009. Please note that the following critique is directed at the referenced lawmakers and not at you.

”… would amend the federal Animal Welfare Act to ban the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption in the United States."

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

The states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to make such a law. It’s up to the individual states to make such laws with their unique, 10th Amendment-protected powers.

"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.
So this bill is an unthinking attempt to unconstitutionally expand the already unconstitutionally big federal government’s powers imo.

Corrections, insights welcome.
