I came off the Metro in Washington, DC two days ago and as I was making my way to the escalator to catch my commuter bus, I saw something that gave me a little bit of hope.
Ahead of me was a black female, short, in her 20's, and toting a backpack. She had a Velcro tag on her backpack; a black tag with white lettering. It read I CARRY A GUN BECAUSE A COP IS TOO HEAVY. I got her attention and said I liked it. She laughed and said thank you. I then said I'm surprised you haven't been stopped by the District police. She said, not yet.
I like to think, that little by little, people are starting to understand that the government we have - from the local level to the federal leviathan - is not here to protect the citizens but to enslave them.
This is good. We can only benefit by having all types of Americans willing to purchase guns and be properly trained to handle them. The more demographics we penetrate, the better.
Everyone has their reason to own if not to carry, and in the end, it’s usually something to do with self defense.
That is encouraging. People don’t trust their leaders anymore.
I wonder if the police will hassle her.

Can people in the DC area get a concealed carry permit? I choose to live in the more free areas of the country so I have had a concealed weapon permit for over half of my life. I dread when I have to travel to areas of the country where there is almost no CCW permitted. Those are criminal protection zones.
Virginia, pretty much.

From the article: "Police are asking the public to keep the officer and his family in their thoughts and prayers."
Gives me hope, too, police asking for thoughts and prayers and media outlet reporting it.

Ala, Tenn, Ky all “gun friendly” with reciprosity. I was thinking of taking a side trip to my old stomping grounds in daBronx and Rockland County, but because of NY’s bleeped up gun laws I said FUGGEDABOUDIT!
Gee how could they after District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008)? I mean this appears to be ‘settled law’!
African Americans are waking up to what has been done to them by the dem elite.Thank God. The “Hialeah” taco bell video that has gone viral is another example. And we can and should lead by example. I make black friends at my job and in the community. After they come to realize i am not an evil klansman i then tell them that i support trump and explain why. Most respond very positvely.
I teared up when I read your post. I am old, I have read history and I have lived it. I understand completely the gift America was to her citizens and to the world. In my lifetime, I have watched politicians grow our government into an instrument for themselves and their rich enablers, the lobbyists, and I have watched the politicization of Academia, so they can be a part of the dictatorship which, I believe with all my heart is the ultimate goal of the powerful left in this country. Our internal enemies want the power of life and death over this population and when they get it, they will ruthlessly carry it our. We are seeing in the present the evil of that through the violence, threats and bullying the left is carrying out, some of them politicians, as their lapdog media normalizes their behavior and nothing happens to stop even the most blatant examples of it. Radical groups are formed with someone’s money, Big Tech is set to take over as the world's government as they have the power to put to death all conservative thought and all the evidences from history of what lies before us. I do not weep for myself for I grew up in a big family on a small farm and, as fate would have it, I was smart enough to become educated and to build a life for myself because I lived in freedom and mentors who saw that I wanted to learn helped me to do that. The rest I learned on my own through the experience and research which came my way. The disgust I always had for bullies helped me to understand dictatorship. Please, God, take care of the brave lady spoken of in the post cited here and, please, bring out many more like her, for the media does not want them visible to us. She defeats their purpose.

If the police have no duty to protect....then they become nothing more than agents of an oppressive government if this remains operative. In this case, Scalia was wrong. The local police have a duty to protect the public against threats to their lives which includes protection from federal authorities.
There are a whole lot of good, productive, law-abiding people of all races and ethnicities that just want to live together in peace and friendship.
Then there are those who don't, and worst of all, those who deliberately want to divide the good people from each other with race-baiting, resentment, and downright hatred.
If you give the police a legal duty to protect the public, they could literally be sued every time a criminal commits a crime against a person because that would constitute a breach of the "duty to protect."
Maybe you think bankrupting every community with such lawsuits is a good idea, but I don't, and I don't think most taxpayers would either.
Of course, that's actually a policy argument, and it isn't the job of the Supreme Court to invent or deny legal duties based on whether or not they believe it is good policy. It's their job to interpret the laws as written. And in that case, there was no law or constitutional provision stating that police have an enforceable legal duty to protect people. So Scalia was completely correct in not inventing such a right.
WELL SAID. As an older person (78) I could not agree with you more.
Which is precisely why we have a Second Amendment.
