Derek Hunter, author of the new book Outrage Inc.: How the Liberal Mob Ruined Science, Journalism, and Hollywood, appears with Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, to discuss the book on C-Span2's "After Words" tonight at 9:00 PM EDT, a repeat from earlier this evening and yesterday. Hunter discusses the tactics and maneuvers used by the left to advance their causes, for example rarely talking about the facts of an issue, which are usually too boring and complicated for most people to follow, but rather presenting their arguments in emotional terms and suggesting that following what their opponents want will lead to the most fearsome outcomes. He comes armed with plentiful facts and documentation and many real-life examples substantiating the points he makes, as well as some compelling rhetoric (on immigration: "if you want to come into my house, knock at the door, don't try to come through the window"). The Southern Poverty Law Center, Bill Nye The Science Guy, and Leonardo DiCaprio are among the left's sacred cows who get a bit of roasting. All in all an entertaining hour.

Hunter takes out after "commentators" who appear everyday on cable news shows - the same twelve people saying the same things over and over, as he describes them. Time was until about ten years ago that these were genuine experts who were in the fields they discussed and had real insights into what was happening. Now it seems they're just hired entertainers who comment for three minutes on one topic one day and another the next, showing up at the studio for a show "just in time to read a newspaper article on what they're going to be talking about", as Hunter sees it. That's why it's always valuable to me to run across shows like this featuring people with real depth in what they discuss and an hour or so with an accommodating host to share their knowledge in some detail.
