There’s that darn word again: “professor”. Clown is more like it.
I can remember when “professor” used to mean something....until the libs took it over.

I’m sure Roger Waters will have a statement about this fairly soon. X.x

I think he needs to be sued for affecting the earning potential of this student.

SJWs, as well as the small group of anti-semite trolls that pop onto this site from time to time, will probably laud this guy as a ‘hero’.

"John Cheney-Lippold turned down the student's request after he learned it was for studying in Israel. "

This guy looks too young to know anything.

If you’re a millennial, it’s not about what you know. It’s all about what you FEEL. (eyeroll)

How do we know the student is even good? He might be a C student at best.

I asked professors to write letters of recommendation for me for graduate school. I don’t know what they said...as I recall I gave them stamped envelopes to mail to the department chairman and they could say what they wished, or not send them at all.

The Professor states in the article that he will “Happily write a letter for her, just so long as it’s not for a college in Israel.”

SHE is an honors student, and the professor specifically said he would write any other letter, but NOT to help her study in Israel.

Tough but who cares, the student has no fundamental right to get what they want from the professor. Professors are under no obligation to write letters for their students and requiring that they do smacks too much of big government.

Now that it's public the attention seeking student will find plenty of similarly publicity seeking universities willing to take her regardless of her qualifications. And the professor will be avoided by any students who want to study in Israel in the future. That's the market at work and a better outcome all around, than the government mandating behavior.

Granted, your point is valid, but that’s NOT the issue here.
The issue is that, right in the article itself, the professor states that he would “gladly provide her a letter for any other college that is NOT in Israel.”

THAT is the issue, NOT any sense of entitlement on the student’s part. Were I in the same situation, my response to the professor in question would be: “You know what? I’m good. With an attitude like yours, I’d just as soon NOT have someone like you on my CV.”

THAT is what I see as the main issue here.

“gladly provide her a letter for any other college that is NOT in Israel.”

Agreed, having the professors opposition to Israel in the public record is a good thing, which it now is. Students can make choices based on knowledge of his leanings, the institution can make choices on what kinds of messages they want to send to prospective students.

Were I in the same situation, my response to the professor in question would be: “You know what? I’m good. With an attitude like yours, I’d just as soon NOT have someone like you on my CV.”

The millennials are way too media savvy for that. They've learned that becoming a public cause celebre and a victim is a much faster route to success.
