I'm not a trucker (nor I never played one on TV), but my friend said that truckers from Mexico are driving I 10. Not sure if he was, but a few years ago, an ILLEGAL driving a Mack hit a car stopped at a railroad crossing pushing the car - and 4 people in the car - into the path of a train.

Not saying he was, but trucker verus car accidents are increasing.

from what I understand NAFTA permitted truckers from other countries to drive all the way into the destination country, instead of the switching of drivers.

It has worked well for the Mexicans because American drivers who go into Mexico get killed.

Yes, I've seen plenty of crazy truck driving on I80 in PA, but lots of crazy car and motorcycle driving too. Also, enough accidents I can see driving by exactly what happened. What would possess a motorcycle driver to go near 100mph weaving through trucks going nearly 80!!! I've seen THAT numerous times.

I’ll agree with That! And running stop signs is getting worse and worse. I guess too many think that if the law doesn’t apply to the Clintons or the banksters, why would it apply to us?

“...and, stop signs are just a suggestion.”

Stop means yield (if you feel like it) yield means go fast.

There are those who drive cars who assume because they’re in a smaller vehicle that they can whip in/out/around large trucks at their leisure. They have this misconception that large trucks have larger brakes and can stop on a dime.

I’ve had several close calls while driving some of my company’s big trucks (Kenworth T370 or T470).

One I was in the lane to take the offramp, and some prick driving a pickup pulling a trailer was mad because I was doing the speed limit so he whipped around cutting me off. He came within 6 inches of eating both the concrete barrier to one side and my front bumper on the other.

The other I was in the outside lane, there was an on ramp with traffic coming down. I could not move into the middle lane due to traffic beside me. Some senile old douche in an RV started forcing his way over despite having nearly a mile long acceleration lane. With my airhorns blaring, over he comes, and I have nowhere to go. Try stopping 50k+ pounds of truck in a case like that.

HaHa! Over here, you’ll be lucky to have an oncoming vehicle (let alone-horse cart) using lights of any kind in the pre-dawn and post-dusk hours.
Fortunately for the eagle-eyed, there is a lot of external chrome & shiny stainless steel that give a hint via my lights’ reflection

The other amusing aspect is the multitude of signs:
Slow Down-Accident Prone Area

Heck, it’s one big accident prone area!

It’s possible the people in the truck that he hit are Mexicans. They have Latino surnames.

In this case, the truck driver hit a Peterbilt that was in front of him. The Peterbilt was showed into the car.

Their brakes may be larger, but the GVW is even larger still.

And then there are the folks who pull right in front of the trucks. I read s story once in the paper where somebody pulled in front of a truck on I-66 and then stopped in heavy traffic. The trucker didn’t see him from way up in the cab and killed him. So I typically wait until I see the front windshield of the truck I’m passing before moving in front of him.

I saw a wreck two weeks ago where a small pickup hit a trucks trailer crossing a four lane divided highway. The driver in the small pickup was going way over the speed limit when he blew by me. I was about a quarter mile behind when it happened. The pickup driver didn’t react until the last second. I saw smoke from his tires before the collision. He wasn’t paying attention to anything. The only thing the brakes did for him was keep him from running under the trailer. He hit the rear wheels, had to be life flighted out. All I could think was, he was playing with his phone. The 18 wheeler wasn’t at fault

It’s hard to blame wrecks on vehicles that are stopped and get rear ended. You have to be aware of the conditions in front of you. Following too close is one of the biggest causes of all accidents

“Now the COPS don’t even use that forgotten piece of mandatory equipment”

I watch deputy sheriffs and highway patrol go by on the street and 90% of them are talking on their cellphone.

Yep- all kinds of folks in/on all kinds of vehicles doing stupid things...one can only do what one can do to protect himself and maybe protect a few of them from themselves while at it. Despite nearly every modern vehicle having Bluetooth, there’s still plenty driving erratically with a phone to the ear and a 1,000 mile stare on their faces.

I've seen everything you have described - wasn't trying to denigrate all truckers because I've seen a number who are still good at what they do...just saying that shit happens and I wouldn't automatically blame the guy in the car over the trucker w/o enough info...I used a truck in my own example because that was the topic...seen way more idiots in cars and on bikes over the years. Be safe.

My biggest peeve with truckers is when they end up side by side across all lanes of an interstate because way too often when they pull out to pass on a hill (or to keep from losing 100' of distance), then find out that their own rig won't maintain, much less allow them to pass....I realize they can sometimes save fuel by not getting stuck behind one of their brethren but they sure lose a lot of good will when slowing a few lines of cars down over a long stretch. They also have the same problem so many cars have - even when they have plenty of passing power, they tend to get "hung up" in the act of passing.....barely creeping by the traffic on the right only to speed up after they have inched by and pulled back to the right lane...must be something psychological with folks to make so many do that....nobody seems to have a sense of courtesy for others and that exacerbates the issues folks have with each other. I try to keep from slowing folks down...all too often, a car will come up quick and flash it's lights and I 'll pull right to let them by....only to have them end up beside me and dallying as the rear end of the vehicle I was eventually going to pass looms nearer. Makes me keep an eye out once I move over...if they aren't making an obvious move to actually pass, i end up back in front of them so i don't get stuck.

Kind of makes my point about not automatically blaming the guy in the car...had a few truckers taking offense because truckers have as many beefs about how other idiots drive as we do.

Don't replace your country's truck drivers with Mexicans.
