I often do the same when it is obvious I am in such a zone - it sounds like the guy was surprised and hit the brakes hard...used to be when truckers were really up on situational awareness and safety but these days they act as if they are in sports cars....they are usually the fastest thing moving in foggy/rainy weather and I’ve almost been taken out by a few while going 30 in a downpour where even 30 was too fast....flashers and all.... one almost put me in the Genessee River when, the light turning green and me noting a truck over 1/8 mile away in the lane that just turned red (45 mph zone) - I turned right and looked in the mirror and he was on me...trying to run the light from over 2,000 feet away. I managed to hit the shoulder and hug the guard rail as he then stopped (in less than 200 feet) and he came back and asked what kind of fool I was because you couldn’t stop them rigs on a dime....I retorted that you also couldn’t speed them up and beat a light that had turned red while as far back as he was and he gave me a dirty look and returned to his rig....the original line that got me going was that some wanted to arbitrarily blame the drive of the car for causing the trucker’s demise and while it happens often enough, it also happens the other way around with at least the same frequency.

Yes, I've seen plenty of crazy truck driving on I80 in PA, but lots of crazy car and motorcycle driving too. Also, enough accidents I can see driving by exactly what happened. What would possess a motorcycle driver to go near 100mph weaving through trucks going nearly 80!!! I've seen THAT numerous times.

There are those who drive cars who assume because they’re in a smaller vehicle that they can whip in/out/around large trucks at their leisure. They have this misconception that large trucks have larger brakes and can stop on a dime.

I’ve had several close calls while driving some of my company’s big trucks (Kenworth T370 or T470).

One I was in the lane to take the offramp, and some prick driving a pickup pulling a trailer was mad because I was doing the speed limit so he whipped around cutting me off. He came within 6 inches of eating both the concrete barrier to one side and my front bumper on the other.

The other I was in the outside lane, there was an on ramp with traffic coming down. I could not move into the middle lane due to traffic beside me. Some senile old douche in an RV started forcing his way over despite having nearly a mile long acceleration lane. With my airhorns blaring, over he comes, and I have nowhere to go. Try stopping 50k+ pounds of truck in a case like that.

In this case, the truck driver hit a Peterbilt that was in front of him. The Peterbilt was showed into the car.
