PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - A 17-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday after making a joke that he left his gun in his car, authorities said.
According to Pembroke Pines police, the student from Pembroke Pines Charter High School made the threat following a Code Red drill.
"Guys, I left my gun in my car. You get to live another day," the teen allegedly told his peers.
Police said the teacher alerted the school's administration, who then contacted the school's School Resource Officer.
Police said the teen was detained as Officer John Mulcahy searched his vehicle, finding no weapons.
Police said the teen admitted to making the threat but said that it was just a joke and he didn't have any intention to do harm to anyone.
Regardless, police arrested the boy on a second-degree felony charge of making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner.

We would park our trucks on the school property with our shotguns mounted in the racks.
I could easily imagine this happening, and believe that the boy really was just joking. It was clumsy and foolish in this day and age, but any other time, it would be just a joke if he wasn’t known to be a violent person.
Teens do a lot of joking, as they discover how society really works.
I made a lot of dumb jokes and crude observations in my first few years at college, away from home. Emphasis on ‘Away From Home’. It was a new level of freedom to speak as one wished.
Huh? So I guess if he had a gun in his car and intended to shoot up the school in the future he would have been good?
We homeschool and I teach my kids to never leave their gun in the car.
Always keep it on you or near because you never know when you’ll need it to fend off a crazed Democrat.
I wonder how the teacher knew ? overheard ?
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Some things you just don’t say anymore.
Like, if you’re picking up your friend, Jack, at the airport, you don’t yell Hi, Jack!
Broward County. Less than thirty miles due south from Parkland.
Everybody is on edge, and it was a stupid thing to say. But then again, teenagers tend to be wiseguys.

Well at least he wasn’t setting up rape trains like BK was at 17...
Slacker!
Every Democrat is a violent totalitarian thug.
I didn't have to tell him I left my gun in my truck because...
WE ALL DID!
We'd hunt before going to school, and went hunting after. And yes, there were guns in our vehicles. Nobody ever got shot.
Yep, those days are long gone..........Will they ever return?.........................
We had a ‘Dean of Boys’ at our HS JUST LIKE THAT GUY!.......................
Hell, I carried my Ithaca 12-gauge across campus to demonstrate cleaning the weapon as part of my required speech class.
The instructor checked into it for me and told me only to make sure it was unloaded and, as I transported it, in the soft case.
America.
He lost every chance of SCOTUS in his future. Maybe even no chance as the city dog catcher.
That nonsense is driven by the same bipartisan brutes who are behind the effort to control our Supreme Court justice selections and the #PoundMeToo accusation paradigm. Go ahead, though. Let them have their way with our government, and see what happens.
A buddy of my 16 year old son just got expelled from school last week for a similar joke.
The kid was on Instagram trading bad jokes with some other friends. After one especially bad joke, the boy responded, you make it hard for me not to be a serial killer.
Two days later, he was booted from school (a rather expensive private day school) because someone that saw the post reported him to school authorities. They said they were uncomfortable at school now.
And, the kid was a week away from his Eagle Scout Board of Review.
Pretty bad situation all around.
