Our credit union just updated their online and mobile banking and I had to reauthenticate my account. The identity questions were obscure ones - I'm sure not listed anywhere and I actually hope I remember the answers if I ever have to answer them.
I don't use the automated telephone system so I don't know what options are available. If I speak to a live person, they always ask my last transactions as verification, as well as my social security number.
Change banks if you can.
Someone created a paypal and linked to my checking. I challenged the transfer and reversed, but i had to close and open a new checking account.
WADR, if I found a credit card I'd turn it in to the appropriate authority.
My son has done the same with his account over the phone with TD bank when his chicom phone got hacked. They claim to have voice recognition which verifies you are who you say you are.
Maybe it’s not as secure as they think it is?
I receive occasional emails claiming that there is a problem with my paypal account. But I only used it once, about eight years ago, so I delete the emails.
The gas station pumps around here require the card billing zip code to be entered.
“Actually, the app for my bank and credit card, downloaded through the iOS App Store, works very well in my case. Mostly because it requires pretty strict login credentials.”
It may work well for banking, but it also may well track where you go, what you do, and then report that info back to the bank who could sell it to buyers who are interested in what you do, where you go and how often.
That’s what everyone should assume when they install an app on their phone.
Thank you for the admonition. Please allow me to restate.
"If I were a bad guy and I found a credit card, the first place I would go is a gas station and tank up because they do not check anything. That is why we get an alert on ANY charge made at a gas station."
Be vigilant!
