Alabama's Offense The Story Of 2018 Season, And Now The Real Fun Begins
Sporting News ^ | 10-8-2018 | Bill Bender

Tua Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide offense remain the dominant story of the first half of the 2018 college football season.

That continued for No. 1 Alabama in a 65-31 victory at Arkansas on Saturday, which capped a 6-0 first half of the season for the defending national champions. Tagovailoa bolstered his Heisman Trophy campaign by finishing 10 of 13 passing for 334 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He didn't take a fourth-quarter snap for the sixth time this season.

His first-half stats this season are amazing enough as it is. The best chapters are yet to come, too: Alabama continued to showcase an offense that came into this game averaging 56 points with even more more eye-popping statistics against Arkansas.

Tagovailoa averaged 27.8 yards per completion in the first half and had two more touchdowns than incompletions at that point. The Tide had six plays or 20 yards or more by halftime. Six different skill position players scored, and receiver Jerry Jeudy (135 yards, two touchdowns) improved his All-American candidacy. Alabama also finished with a season-highs in points (65) and total yards (639).

The offensive machine has created a greater point differential than any of Nick Saban's national championship teams at Alabama through six games. Here is a closer look at those numbers:

Year Points for Points against Differential
2018 336 96 240
2012 245 45 200
2017 255 62 193
2011 226 42 184
2009 222 75 147
2015 208 103 105

The biggest takeaway? Alabama is winning by an average of 40 points per game.

Tua Tagovailoa Stats

Last week, Tua attempted 8 passes and completed 8 passes with 2 of those passes touchdowns.

He is being taken from the game so that the score does not get completely crazy.

He hasn’t played in the 4th quarter this season, their blowout lead is that much.

And the best qb in college football plays for Alabama for a change.

Tua is unreal.

I hate hearing that Trevon Diggs has a broken foot. We don’t have a lot of depth as it is. Hopefully he’ll be back soon.

Bama is clearly the best college football team this season. All the other teams are competing to see which one will get to be defeated by Bama in the championship game. As I have previously stated, The method to defeat Bama is to hire a witch doctor to place a hex on the Bama players to give them the hebegevies.

Only Haskins might challenge him. It’s going to end up with the showdown every real college football fan wants: Alabama vs Ohio State. And as a Buckeye, it pains me to say this: Alabama probably wins. Sigh.

People I talk to seem embarrassed because Bama hasn’t played any ranked team. Hell, students didn’t even show up to the game last week. But the real test is when they play the Sisters of the Poor in two weeks. That’ll be a match!

An SEC title game between Alabama and Georgia might be the best game of the season in college football.

Other than A&M, who have they played?

Ah! Alabama. The school that leads the nation (along with USC) in the number of NCAA probations it has incurred.

Football is a dying sport. College aged kids don’t have that much enthusiasm for it. Combine that with the reality that the Chinese and the Indian kids don’t give a damn about game day, they’re in the library. Also parents and students are getting pissed that they have to rack up thousands of dollars of debt while some semi-literate who can’t read at an eighth-grade level gets a free ride. If the students at Alabama don’t care, they don’t care anywhere.

Understand your post but all the top Big 10 teams play Rutgers as a conference game. Rutgers would have a hard time with the top High School teams in NJ.

I have never seen an offense like this is fifty years as a Tide fan. Tua is amazing. He has weapons all over the field. Jeudy, Smith, Ruggs, Jalen Waddle and Irv Smith Jr. That’s just the receivers.

If the team gets the ball on their own thirty five with thirty seconds left we wonder if they can score.

If anyone beats Alabama, I will wholeheartedly salute them.

Nobody. They’ve been a 20-30 point favorite in every game. But we’ll still hear about how they play a “meat grinder” schedule.

Need to check your facts Mr. Chips. Yes, USC with 15 is near the top but SMU is the leader with 17. And the War Eagle Tiger Plainsmen of Auburn are near the top with 11 seasons of probation. There are number of schools with the 10 seasons on probation, the same as Bama.

College age kids today are mostly wimps. Beyond that college costs are inflated for a number of reasons, Among the reasons are faculty that only teach one-half the load they taught twenty years ago, administrative costs have exploded due to regulations and bloat, building are now charged to students through fees, many institutions use tuition for athletics while some prohibit tuition use for athletics (Georgia for one), excess scholarships for study abroad, etc.

Agree. I have never seen so many weapons on the field at one time. They’re fun to watch.

ROLL TIDE!!

I’m loving this incredible offensive machine. Tua is unreal and we are so lucky to have him.

I almost had a panic attack when Tua went in the medical tent and, later on, wore a knee brace. I’m especially paranoid about his health because, as you know, Bama has been absolutely cursed with injuries for the past two years.

Tua is so electric and fun to watch and I really hope that his season isn’t ruined by injury. I’m anticipating his emotional speech when he wins the Heisman:)

I’m sorry but you must have Bama confused with Auburn. You also forgot SMU.

I would advise you to check the facts before making a complete fool of yourself.

Jealousy is an ugly thing.
