Mike Pompeo Denounces China's 'awful abuses' of detained Muslim Uygurs

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday denounced the “awful abuses” of Muslim Uygurs detained in Chinese reeducation camps.

“Hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of Uygurs are held against their will in so-called re-education camps where they’re forced to endure severe political indoctrination and other awful abuses,” Pompeo said in a speech in Washington on the state of religious freedom around the world.

He also expressed concern about the fate of Christians in China, who he said had been targeted in a government crackdown.

The government, he said, has been “closing churches, burning Bibles and ordering followers to sign papers renouncing their faith”.

Since the ChiComs are doing the same thing to Christians (and possibly worse, since when convenient the ChiComs turn the Mahometans against the Christians where they believe they will gain), that point is correct.

Isn’t there a realpolitik saying, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend?”

Not entirely sure who’s who, here.

China should welcome diversity, multiculturalism and ethnic integration.

Look how well these values have worked out for Europe and the USA.

The persecution of Christians predates these camps by years. That denunciation is beyond weak sauce. Sorry hitting snooze and rolling over.

Political re-education and indoctrination is a pillar of the Communist structure. So is killing muslems for being muslems.

Are the Chinese complaining? Its their country.

There’s a couple stories from Jimmy Carter’s meeting with Deng Xiao-ping that I remember.

The first is that during meetings with foreign officials, Deng would put his cigarettes out upon, and would spit on, the huge carpet in the Great Hall of the People - and no one except the Americans batted an eye.

The other was that Jimmy Carter (being Jimmy Carter) and fresh off the controversy of the Jackson-Vanik amendment with the Soviet Union, raised the issue of free travel and emigration with Deng. Deng replied him: “OK, sure. How many do you want?”

Communists and Muslims slaughtering each other, however, is a big help for BOTH Communism and Islam. A complete solution it is not, but only because in the end some of one or the other will be left and of course there will still be work to do.

But that is the only reason.

The Western Leftists are allied to Islam. I think that this is a trail balloon because this policy will not be criticized by the Western Leftists.

After more abuses are revealed against the Uygurs, abuses against Tibetans will be criticized and eventually Christians. Right now, the leftists are envious of the Chicoms policy of censorship and mistreatment of Christians.

I don’t necessarily agree with this approach because it seems needlessly timid.

I saw a Brit author being interviewed who claimed that the Uighurs in these camps have all been DNA tested and their organs are available to successful bidders.

The Uighurs are a beautiful (physically and culturally) ethnically mixed, tradition-rich people in a fascinating geographic context. How does it help that the Chinese government imprisons them en masse and continues to make it difficult for Christian missionaries to reach these populations?!

Also while Islamic radicalism is a problem in Central Asia, especially in the post-soviet spaces like Uzbekistan and Tajikistan — many Central Asians I’ve met personally are MINO. (Muslim in Name Only.)

That is a bait and switch arguement.

You are attempting to swap out all of the inhabitants of the region (whom I never criticized per se) with the practitioners of the unified world system known as Islam.

You yourself pointed out that the apostates aren’t a problem. I never indicated that the apostates were a problem.

My point is and was that Muslims who follow the Koran and the Hadith are as bad as committed communists so I have no problems if those two groups kill each other off, and I damned well won’t support squandering American personnel or resources in any misguided attempt to stop them from doing so.

Kublai Khan (1260 to 1294) didn’t like and abused Muslim Uygurs also.
