Did Eisenhower's final speech also foretell the farce of Global Warming fanaticism?

My fellow Americans:

Three days from now, after half a century in the service of our country, I shall lay down the responsibilities of office as, in traditional and solemn ceremony, the authority of the Presidency is vested in my successor.

This evening I come to you with a message of leave-taking and farewell, and to share a few final thoughts with you, my countrymen.

Like every other citizen, I wish the new President, and all who will labor with him, Godspeed. I pray that the coming years will be blessed with peace and prosperity for all.....

....In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

.....You and I -- my fellow citizens -- need to be strong in our faith that all nations, under God, will reach the goal of peace with justice. May we be ever unswerving in devotion to principle, confident but humble with power, diligent in pursuit of the Nation's great goals.

To all the peoples of the world, I once more give expression to America's prayerful and continuing aspiration:

Frankly, Eisenhower could hardly guess that cult of global warming and climate change would become so dominant in today's world, but he obviously understood that a great deal of people are interested in making money... Including those in the scientific community and whenever you put money out there, somebody's going to find a way to grab it. Making Climate Change 'public policy' is a very good way to do it.

He was definitely spot on with that warning.

Yes, a time when America was truly great. I’m convinced had LBJ’s Great Society not happened, Americans voluntarily would have solved many of our current ills. His injection of big government began our road down to perdition.

Hi, jerod! The man had his head on his shoulders considering warning the American People... I realize he meant the Military at that time...got to wonder, though, what he saw and couldn’t reveal.... I think that was as clear a warning as he could give the American people at that time.

I ran across THAT section of his Farewell Address a few years ago.

It follows immediately after the vastly more famous “Military-Industrial Complex” warnings that liberals love to quote.

Of course, they NEVER, quote the next few paragraphs.

Eisenhower’s exposure to the power dangers of scientists well connected to government must have come from his experience in government, for although he was chosen to head Columbia University after World War II, he was a largely absent leader as other activities, illness and additional military appointments took him away from Columbia more than keeping him there during most of the time he was nominally it’s predident.

Eisenhower was also a devotee of globalist nonsense. He gave his “Chance of Peace” speech right after Stalin croaked (Stalin was helped along on his journey, the same way he’d helped Lenin along) and there are some great things he said, but then he enumerated principles. Oh, and of course, the only quote one usually sees from this speech is the “every gun... a theft” snippet.

What Ike understood in his bones, after serving for 50 years in government, was that government was simply too big and powerful. At the turn of the 20th Century, government on all levels spent roughly 3% of GDP - so while there was opportunity for corruption, it was quite limited. Now think about there being 40% of GDP being spent by governments across the country - there is FAR more opportunity for corruption, and also a far larger constituency for maintaining a large and powerful government even among those who are not, themselves, corrupt (i.e. the useful idiots, many of whom are gov’t employees).

Ike was a true patriot, and a pretty smart and observant one, at that. His warning wasn’t strictly about the M-I Complex, but that was the one that the Leftards latched on to because they despise the military. They’ve been distorting this speech and its warnings for the last 58 years...the bastards.

I wish that someone could design a computer program that mimicked Ike’s thought processes, and have it make all Executive decisions. We could hardly do worse, over time (the present Chief Executive excepted, of course).

There’s a multiplier effect going on. And if it goes beyond a certain point, then it reverts to full-scale socialism, communism, and the Gulags.

With the election of Donald Trump, we dodged the bullet for 20 years perhaps, but culture has to change and the size of the federal budget must be reduced.
