I worked at a pizza restaurant. I would get asked how large a pizza was then how many slices it was cut into. A standard response to this information was “How large would it be if you cut it in 10 slices instead of 8?” I kid you not.

No idea if the average Brit eats like this in real life, but beans on toast with an egg on top, sounds like a greasy, starchy heart attack on a plate. Trying to take that, or greasy fish and chips, with a side of mashed overcooked peas, or a breakfast fry-up, away from them, would probably be akin to taking away a southerner’s biscuits and gravy, or a northerner’s loaded chili cheese fries, or a New Yorker’s street hot dogs. Revolt! Or revolting, depending on your taste in food. (Californians can relax; nobody wants to take away your kale and soy smoothies).
