Actually, the “brown shirts” or Sturmabteilung of the Weimar era were one of the many paramilitary organizations which included various right-wing Freikorps (”Free Corps”) veteran groups which fought against the Red Front Fighters League (Rotfrontkämpferbund) of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).
