Vanity: What someone yelled out in theater full of HALLOWEEN 40 patrons (No Spoilers!)

Watched HALLOWEEN 40 this morning with my son. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and was produced by Jamie as well as by John Carpenter and Cody Carpenter. The screenplay/writing was Excellent!

In a scene -- no spoilers! -- a boyfriend of Laurie's granddaughter tells her parents that he's "7% Cherokee". Someone in the audience yelled out: "That's still 7% more than Liz Warren!!"

I live in a predominantly African-American neighborhood here in Southern Maryland, and the audience was packed with mostly African-American patrons - about 90%.

This scene and reply brought a smile to my face.

After the film was over the film projector guy put on a Michael Myers mask and greeted us all in the audience. It was phenomenal!

When I lived on 86th Street in Manhattan, I loved the black audiences. They hooted at everything. The only thing I didn’t like was that sometimes they brought a chicken dinner into the theater.

They were laughing their butts off throughout this entire movie — it made it fun and even the scary parts were tolerable (with audience humor).

Funniest movement we had was watching the first “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. At the battle at the end, when Aragon dispatched an enemy, an obviously black voice exclaimed “He, bad!” The whole theatre broke out in laughter. Perfect timing.

That’s why I rolled my eyes at Steven Spielberg being beside himself when he found out black audiences were laughing at...Schindler’s List. He had no idea, the big lib, that they will laugh through almost any movie. They made Titanic bearable for me.

You gotta love it. They have no respect for anything - sometimes that’s a relief in this pc world.

When I was forced into watching Titanic in the theater, about 30 minutes in I blurted “Just Sink, already!” All the guys around me laughed, the women just looked at me very sternly.

I’m a woman and I was thinking “when are they going to get to the iceberg part?”

That’s funny!

When I was a kid, it seemed people were much more rambunctious watching movies.

Re: Titanic
The first half, once you got past admiring the movie set and costumes, was pure soap opera.

That was Damon Wayon’s brother - I forget his name. He had that great tv show In Living Color. No wonder it was so funny.
