Smoking Tasty Tri Tips for Weight Loss
YouTube ^ | October 21, 2018 | Half Of Me

VIDEO

I recently smoked a Tri Tip which was so incredibly good that I smoked two more Tri Tips that same week. This video is of the third Tri Tip that I smoked.

One way I am losing weight is by preparing incredibly tasty low or no carb food such as this. Meanwhile I am able to avoid carb cravings via taking Crave Stop.

Tri Tips are very popular in the Santa Barbara area of California. It is from the lower triangular area of the cow below the sirloin, thus the name "Tri Tip." It is somewhere between a steak and roast beef in taste and texture. If you never had it before, I highly recommend it. However, if you do cook it up you should smoke it in order to fully appreciate its fantastic flavor.

Windy, you aren’t supposed to put the tri tips in your bong. Dude.

You nailed it. Number of cals still count. But both quantity and quality of food do count. So the meat guys should have done everything they did at your station but eaten only half!

In the long run if you want to lose weight there is no substitute for eating less calories than your body burns. It is difficult to burn enough extra calories with exercise alone to lose much weight especially considering most of us reward ourselves with some sort of snack after a workout.

This is exactly the mechanism I'm using to lose weight. Typically called CICO (calorie in, calorie out) I've set my self to a daily calorie limit with the goal so lose about 1-2 lbs a week. I calculate and log my food with the MyFitnessPal app.

I am doing a higher protein, lower carb diet (sort of a loose paleo style of diet) to accomplish this as I've found that the higher protein keeps me feeling fuller longer and carb loading really makes me feel bad. If I do have carbs I try to pick carbs that have more value, like fruit that at least provided nutrients rather than carbs that are really empty like crackers, or bread.

Over time I've found that I use the mindset of exercise as something I do because it makes me feel good, or makes me stronger, but not as a reason to eat more calories.

East coast cows evidently don’t have that part. Only place I can find it is at the commissary, and the butcher there was trained by an ax murderer.

You can get a sirloin roast and halve it to get the same fat composition and surface to thickness ratio.

I use Spade L Ranch beef rub for my Trii tip. East of the Mississippi, you have to mail order it straight from the company.

Time to fire up the smoker right now.

Slicing across the grain is critical in try-tip cooking. I use Big Green Egg. 15 minutes at 400 degrees. Direct heat. Fat side down. Then 30-45 minutes Indirect at 350 degrees. Fat side up. Enjoy.
Oh, and I use Pappy’s Seasoning.

PJ, how were you safely installing satellite antennas at 320 pounds?

That's what I'm saying!

I'd rather eat tri tips, than smoke them, any day!

The high fat content is a PLUS, not a negative. If you limit your carb intake to 20-50 grams of carbs/day, 100 g of protein, and 150 grams of fat, you will lose much quicker than if you limit fat. (The numbers depend on your current height and weight, and how much you want to lose. There are online calculators to figure out what’s optimal). Some people eat ZERO carbs, but just protein without fat is not a good idea. Good luck!

Low carb diets do NOT count calories. Plenty of people have been on low calorie diets, but do not lose weight like they do with low carb diets. And with a low carb, high fat, moderate protein diet, you never get hungry, mainly because protein, and especially fats, satiate the appetite for a long time. It is a high fat diet. Lots of butter, fats, animal fats, cream, fatty meats. Sounds unhealthy, but it drops blood sugars in type two diabetics, and studies show that, contrary to American Heart Association guidelines, bad cholesterol levels decrease. My doctor says, “whatever you’re doing, keep it up.” My last hgb a1c was 5.3, which is in the normal, non-diabetic range. I eat strawberry shortcake (made with low carb biscuit or cake) with a big glob of whipped heavy cream several times a week. I snack on peanuts, which are practically carb free, because you count net carbs -— the carb count AFTER you subtract the fiber grams. It’s a very satisfying diet. (But unless you go practically carb cold turkey, you’ll need to bake your own breads and crackers, or spend a ton on ready made low carb baked goods.)

You make it look so easy. We have a Weber gas grill...now I’m gonna have to get the charcoal grill.

The flavor is so much better with charcoal (and hickory chunks) than with gas.

PJ, how were you safely installing satellite antennas at 320 pounds?

First of all, I weighed a lot less when I was selling those antennas. Second, I ONLY sold them, not installed them.

BTW, I could write a book based on my experiences selling 10 foot satellite dishes in La-La Land. Almost every page would be chock full of laughs.

As of my last weigh-in on September 28, I had lost 54 pounds from my original weight on May 27. My immediate goal is to drop a total of 100 pounds. Once I drop that weight, I will have a YUUUUUUGE announcement to all the peoples of the world.

BTW, my next public weigh-in will be November 9. Public is invited to watch.

I was trying to figure out how you were smoking a piece of steak.

Pipe? Papers?

Was it a special weight loss trick?

Then it finally dawned on me.

What you said about portions is key... restaurants sell two to four portions per person in order to increase profits... you should not eat it all at one sitting.

BTW, I’m not going to go into a lot of detail about how I am losing weight until after my goals are attained but I am currently using my body as sort of an experiment. The method I am using and seems to be working quite well is what I call “plateauing.” Lose a bunch of pounds fairly fast and then hold the new lower weight at that plateau for a few weeks before dropping down to a lower weight plateau.

Tri-Tips = Santa Maria BBQ, an American classic. It was Ronald Reagan's favorite too.
