There's a meme floating around that says all dems voted no on the increase to SS. That is apparently not true but I wanted to see if anyone here can shed light on previous votes that reflect that or any other clarity.
What is a COLA?
Legislation enacted in 1973 provides for cost-of-living adjustments, or COLAs. With COLAs, Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits keep pace with inflation.
Latest COLA
The latest COLA is 2.8 percent for Social Security benefits and SSI payments. Social Security benefits will increase by 2.8 percent beginning with the December 2018 benefits, which are payable in January 2019. Federal SSI payment levels will also increase by 2.8 percent effective for payments made for January 2019. Because the normal SSI payment date is the first of the month and January 1 is a holiday, the SSI payments for January are always made at the end of the previous December.

thanks. I knew it passed but the point is that dems voted against the increase...did they this round of COLA or last round do you know?
No one votes on the COLA’s - they’re determined by the numbers - inflation adjusted by however Social Security adjusts them......
The rise in my Supplemental Part B always outstrips my extra SS money.
COLA’s are automatic...
When the economy does well SS payments go up... the reason SS increases were pathetic under Obama, was because the economy was PATHETIC under him
SO DemoRats are about to cut my Social Security.....WELL..I will never vote for any DemoRat....
It is past time that the crooks in DC pay back the monies they pilfered form our Social Security monies.

Any word on increase to disability payments to disabled US veterans?
Call the VA.
do we know if SS increased at all during 08-16?
No idea - but any SS “Raises” usually just about cover Medicare hikes...
Absolutely correct.
Here's a handy reference: Cost of Living Adjustments.
Looks like there were three years without an increase.
Yes it did, but they were generally pathetic
You can see them here

If you add every increase together during Obamas Term it was 8.8 over 8 years
Trump is at 4.8 in 2 years
These increases also affect federal and postal retirees’ pensions.
Huh.
And I went three years under the 0bama Regime without a pay raise.
Funny how it works that way.
Can anyone tell me the components of the COLA increases?
