The confirmed cases became ill between September 26 and November 5, according to the health department. The number has risen from 18 cases, including six deaths, announced last month by the health department.
A staff member was also affected by the outbreak but has recovered.
The outbreak in the Wanaque facility was caused by adenovirus type 7.
This type is "most commonly associated with acute respiratory disease," according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other types of adenovirus infections can cause flu-like symptoms, pinkeye and diarrhea.
The health department also announced Monday that a new case of adenovirus was found among kids at a second New Jersey facility, Voorhees Pediatric Facility -- bringing their total to five. However, CDC tests suggest that the culprit is adenovirus type 3, a different strain than the one in Wanaque.
Patients at the Voorhees facility became ill between October 20 and 29. An inspection by the state health department last week found no infection control problems and issued no citations.
Adenoviruses are often spread by touching a contaminated person or surface, or through the air by coughing or sneezing. They are known to persist on unclean surfaces and medical instruments for long periods of time, and they may not be eliminated by common disinfectants, but they rarely cause severe illness in healthy people.
However, people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk for severe disease, and they may remain contagious long after they recover, according to the CDC.

No matter what your age, certain prescription drugs, like prednisone, can weaken your immune system.

This is being downplayed in the MSM. Eyes peeled on this one.
Wanaque: 88% white, average household income $98K.
Voorhees, 71% white, 16% Asian, average household income $107K
I’d like to be the first to “thank” the LIBs who opened our borders to people from third world countries who have all sorts of terrible diseases.
It could also be a mutating virus that adapted to our medicines.
there are no medicines for most viruses, that’s why we get immunizations. Today, many people still believe that an antibiotic can treat a cold virus.
In most healthy people, the adenovirus exhibits as a common cold with a stuffed and runny nose and maybe a mild fever.
The Marxist State Media’s “rent a doc” Dr Lapoop gave it away by stating that it was probably a mutation of Entero68 virus which originated with the migrant hordes entering the country a couple of years ago.
One of the many “gifts” from illegal criminal invaders. Libtards don’t give a flying fig about your kids, it’s all about pulling the “D” lever.
